Depiction of a paleolithic zoomorph found during a fielwalk campaign in the Tua Valley (Portugal). It is a rare motif as for the same body three heads of different species were carved.
Like an alchemist attempting to transmute lead into gold, Yuken Teruya tries to turn ordinary waste into beautiful works of art, the onlydifference is that Yuken Teruya succeeds where the alchemists failed. Yuken Teruya’s formula from transformation involves pulling the the art from previously used materials like it existed inside always. Yuken Teruya shows us then the value in everything around us and the potential for beauty around every corner, not just in the usual places. Find out more at www.creativetempest.com

Amalgamated Transmutations: Ooze & Instinct
LOCATION: Inter_Section Gallery 629 N Trade Street in Winston-Salem’s Downtown Arts District
DATES: Opening reception Friday November 7th from 7pm-10pm in conjunction with First Friday Gallery Hop ( show on view thru December 27th )
DESCRIPTION:
Artists Nicole Uzzell, Millicent Greason and Woodie Anderson present new work examining transformations of the physical and mental self under pressure. Together, these three artists use trusted skills and materials combined with unfamiliar techniques and new mediums to explore themes of distortion, mutation and renewal-leading to fresh, unexpected perspectives. The results are both beautifully authentic and unexpectedly raw.
The exhibit includes: paper, wire and ceramic sculptures by Nicole Uzzell, mixed media assemblages by Millicent Greason and large-scale screen printing on found fabrics by Woodie Anderson. Together they collaborate on an installation piece in the store-front windows as a focal point for the exhibit.

The only mockingbird commonly found in the U.S. Mimics the songs of other birds as well as insects and amphibians. A bit of trivia. It was the mockingbirds on Galapagos Islands that triggered Darwin's thoughts that species were not immutable. He noticed the mockingbirds on the islands were different from those on the mainland. He became convinced that species were transmutable and eventually expounded this to his theory of evolution.

These images are on the wall that separates the birthplace and deathplace of Jesus. The Israeli-Palestinian wall separates the Holy Land and represent the division inherent in our world. To create beauty on something that is so ugly and divisive is a transmutation. Palestinian graffiti artists are alchemists.
