cafe Riche of the Belle Epoque is closely connected with the artists who were friends of the Romanian collector and friend of the Impressionists Dr Georges de Bellio.
His daughter and only heiress Victorine de Bellio was painted by renoir and in her will she left her estate to the Marmottan Museum in Paris.

Installations, performances, conferences, from 2 to 25 June 2022, Le Commun Geneva
Renaissance is an exhibition of audio-visual installations produced in collaboration by the duo of digital artists from the Robert Turner Collective and the electroacoustic jazz music duo INFLUUT. Works of algorithmic abstraction offer a synesthetic immersion, inviting introspection and meditation.
Each day presents an event for which the invited artists, scientists or collectives propose an intervention that resonates with the themes of the exhibition. Performances, conferences, installations, and a festival of nights with sound punctuate the Renaissance complex.
Transdisciplinary in nature, this exhibition aims to provide a sort of demystification of the general notion of the algorithm. She deals in a sometimes didactic, sometimes playful, sometimes organic way with themes that may still be difficult to access with a positive and inclusive attitude.

How do people express their emotions on social networks?
Information has become ubiquitously accessible, thus transforming our perception of cities and of the ways we work, learn, communicate and relate to other people.
VersuS analyzes the digital lives of cities to suggest a scenario in which digital and analog realities interweave and become one.
By performing realtime content harvesting on social networks we are able to perform natural language analyses on the conversations running between users, to peek into their emotions, wishes, expectations and desires.
We can make this information available and accessible using information visualizations, mobile applications and generative design artifacts, thus creating the tools which enable the creation of a new form of public space which merges the digital and analog lives of people, transforming them into active agents in a new idea of citizenship, enabling novel forms of expression and representation.
In "love VS turin", we focus on an emotional approach, visualizing the expressions of love and passion of the citizens of the city of Turin, in a realtime collective conversation.
The visualization is put side by side with 3D objects produced using various digital fabrication techniques, and which represent a tangible representation of the emotional condition of the whole territory of the city of Turin.
"Love" can be replaced with other emotions, thus enabling scenarios of focal importance for ecology, public administrations, security, economy and the overall possibility to evaluate the wellness of the people on a certain territory.
VersuS is designed as an evocative tool for people, institutions and organizations, fostering the creation of new, positive, imaginaries for the future of our lives and our relation with the planet and with our fellow human beings.
VersuS is a concept by Art is Open Source and FakePress Publishing, and it is part of the ConnectiCity initiative.
It has been created together with the Fablab Italia and with the Piemonte Share Festival, in a transdisciplinary process in which arts and sciences collaborate to the creation of innovative, breakthrough, scenarios.
VersuS will be officially presented at the 2011 edition of the Piemonte Share Festival together with the Fablab Italia.

Following her graduation from the ‘George Enescu’ Music Conservatoire in Iasi, Miricioiu starts her career at the Brasov Opera. As a young soprano in her 20’s she collects professional prizes at international festivals in Western Europe, which bring her contracts on prestigious stages. She soon understands that her career fulfilment needs to develop without ideological fetters, of a kind applied in Ceausescu’s Romania and so, in 1981, when she is only 29, she decides to settle permanently in England. Since then, Miricioiu’s prodigious career brought her on the stage of the best Opera Houses, where she sang title roles and was hailed, by some Covent Garden critics, as having a quality comparable to Callas (q.v. Hall).

How do people express their emotions on social networks?
Information has become ubiquitously accessible, thus transforming our perception of cities and of the ways we work, learn, communicate and relate to other people.
VersuS analyzes the digital lives of cities to suggest a scenario in which digital and analog realities interweave and become one.
By performing realtime content harvesting on social networks we are able to perform natural language analyses on the conversations running between users, to peek into their emotions, wishes, expectations and desires.
We can make this information available and accessible using information visualizations, mobile applications and generative design artifacts, thus creating the tools which enable the creation of a new form of public space which merges the digital and analog lives of people, transforming them into active agents in a new idea of citizenship, enabling novel forms of expression and representation.
In "love VS turin", we focus on an emotional approach, visualizing the expressions of love and passion of the citizens of the city of Turin, in a realtime collective conversation.
The visualization is put side by side with 3D objects produced using various digital fabrication techniques, and which represent a tangible representation of the emotional condition of the whole territory of the city of Turin.
"Love" can be replaced with other emotions, thus enabling scenarios of focal importance for ecology, public administrations, security, economy and the overall possibility to evaluate the wellness of the people on a certain territory.
VersuS is designed as an evocative tool for people, institutions and organizations, fostering the creation of new, positive, imaginaries for the future of our lives and our relation with the planet and with our fellow human beings.
VersuS is a concept by Art is Open Source and FakePress Publishing, and it is part of the ConnectiCity initiative.
It has been created together with the Fablab Italia and with the Piemonte Share Festival, in a transdisciplinary process in which arts and sciences collaborate to the creation of innovative, breakthrough, scenarios.
VersuS will be officially presented at the 2011 edition of the Piemonte Share Festival together with the Fablab Italia.

The first RE-DWELL workshop will take place in Lisbon on September 22, 23 and 24, organized by ISCTE-UL will take place in Lisbon. The aim of the workshop is to follow up the development of ESR research by fostering networking between individual research projects and by conducting training activities related to the ongoing structured courses (RMT1 and TS1). Invited speakers from professional practice, academia and local government will address topics related to "Design, planning and construction of affordable and sustainable housing" from multiple perspectives. The lectures will be followed by group discussions and complemented by site visits. A roundtable to discuss transdisciplinary research for affordable and sustainable housing will be open to the public via an online session on Thursday 23 at 10:00

We can make this information available and accessible using information visualizations, mobile applications and generative design artifacts, thus creating the tools which enable the creation of a new form of public space which merges the digital and analog lives of people, transforming them into active agents in a new idea of citizenship, enabling novel forms of expression and representation.
In "love VS turin", we focus on an emotional approach, visualizing the expressions of love and passion of the citizens of the city of Turin, in a realtime collective conversation.
The visualization is put side by side with 3D objects produced using various digital fabrication techniques, and which represent a tangible representation of the emotional condition of the whole territory of the city of Turin.
"Love" can be replaced with other emotions, thus enabling scenarios of focal importance for ecology, public administrations, security, economy and the overall possibility to evaluate the wellness of the people on a certain territory.
VersuS is designed as an evocative tool for people, institutions and organizations, fostering the creation of new, positive, imaginaries for the future of our lives and our relation with the planet and with our fellow human beings.
VersuS is a concept by Art is Open Source and FakePress Publishing, and it is part of the ConnectiCity initiative.
It has been created together with the Fablab Italia and with the Piemonte Share Festival, in a transdisciplinary process in which arts and sciences collaborate to the creation of innovative, breakthrough, scenarios.

Antonio de La Gandara (December 16, 1861 - June 30, 1917) was a painter, pastellist and draughtsman.
He was born in Paris, France, but his father was of Spanish ancestry, born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, and his mother was from England. La Gandara's talent was strongly influenced by both cultures. At only 15 years of age, Gandara was admitted as a student of Jean-Léon Gérôme and Cabanes at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. Soon, he was recognized by the jury of the 1883 Salon des Champs-Elysées, who singled out the first work he ever exhibited: a portrait of Saint Sebastian.
Less than ten years later, young Gandara had become one of the favourite artists of the Paris elite. His models included Countess Greffulhe, the Grand Duchess of Mecklenburg, the Princess of Chimay, the Prince de Polignac, the Prince de Sagan, Charles Leconte de Lisle, Paul Verlaine, Leonor Uriburu de Anchorena, Sarah Bernhardt, Romaine Brooks, Jean Moreas, and Winnaretta Singer. Influenced by Chardin, his unique skill is demonstrated in his portraits, in a simplicity with the finest detail.

The transdisciplinary One Health approach aims at achieving optimal health outcomes by recognising the interconnection between people, animals, plants and their shared environment. It recognises that the life and health of animals, humans and other living beings are equally important and that the highest standard of care must be guaranteed for all, wherever they are. In this photograph, a vet auscultates the heart of a minipig. My research project conducted at the Experimental Surgery Facility of the University of Bern studies pain and its characteristics in these animals.
The picture was taken with a tripod on a farm, my colleague Alessandro Mirra helping me with post-production. It underlines the fact that doctors and scientists do not always wear white coats in sterile environments.
Comment of the jury │ The very well composed picture attracts the viewer with its warm colours, brilliantly showing the rarely seen emotional side of science. It raises the complex issue of animal testing, balancing it by a tender and caring gesture. It reminds us that research with animals can also benefit their welfare.

L’approche transdisciplinaire One Health vise à obtenir des résultats optimaux en matière de santé en reconnaissant l’interconnexion existant entre les personnes, les animaux, les plantes et leur environnement commun. Elle reconnaît que la vie et la santé des animaux, des humains et des autres êtres vivants sont d’égale importance et qu’ils doivent tous pouvoir bénéficier de standards de soins les plus élevés, où qu’ils se trouvent. Sur cette photo, une vétérinaire ausculte le cœur d’un miniporc. Mon projet de recherche, mené au Centre de chirurgie expérimentale de l’Université de Berne, étudie la douleur et ses caractéristiques chez ces animaux.
La photo a été prise avec un trépied dans une ferme et mon collègue Alessandro Mirra m’a aidé à la postproduction. Elle souligne le fait que les médecins et les scientifiques ne travaillent pas toujours en blouse blanche dans des environnements stériles.
Commentaire du jury │ Très bien composée, l’image nous attire avec ses couleurs chaudes et dévoile brillamment la part rarement vue de l’émotionnel en science. Elle soulève le thème parfois tendu de l’expérimentation animale, qu’elle adoucit par un geste tendre et bienveillant, et rappelle que la recherche sur les animaux peut parfois leur être également bénéfique.

Der transdisziplinäre One-Health-Ansatz will für die Gesundheit optimale Ergebnisse erzielen, indem er die Verbindungen zwischen Menschen, Tieren, Pflanzen und gemeinsamer Umwelt einbezieht. Somit wird anerkannt, dass das Leben und die Gesundheit von Tieren, Menschen und anderen Lebewesen gleich wichtig sind und dass alle von einer optimalen medizinischen Versorgung profitieren sollten, unabhängig davon, wo sie leben. Auf diesem Bild untersucht eine Tierärztin das Herz eines Minipigs. In meinem Forschungsprojekt am Zentrum für experimentelle Chirurgie der Universität Bern untersuche ich das Schmerzempfinden bei Tieren.
Das Bild wurde mit einem Stativ auf einem Bauernhof aufgenommen. Mein Kollege Alessandro Mirra half mir bei der Nachbearbeitung. Es veranschaulicht, dass Medizin und Forschung nicht immer in weissen Kitteln und sterilen Umgebungen stattfinden.
Kommentar der Jury │ Durch die hervorragende Bildkomposition mit warmen Farben gelingt es auf brillante Art, Emotionen Ausdruck zu verleihen, die in der Wissenschaft selten Platz haben. Das kontroverse Thema der Tierversuche wird durch eine fürsorgliche Geste gemildert, und wir werden daran erinnert, dass diese manchmal auch den Tieren selber zugutekommen.
The first RE-DWELL workshop will take place in Lisbon on September 22, 23 and 24, organized by ISCTE-UL will take place in Lisbon. The aim of the workshop is to follow up the development of ESR research by fostering networking between individual research projects and by conducting training activities related to the ongoing structured courses (RMT1 and TS1). As B. Fuller says – To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete – creative practitioners and cultural strategists hold the tools needed to adapt outdated cultural narratives. They can aid sustainable, long-term change by creating new cultural models. Narratives that are thus built around a core of intersectionality and equity and that further both climate and interspecies justice, have the potential to resonate with and empower the people of Planet B.
In this panel discussion, protagonists specializing in AI research, transdisciplinary and critical art, cultural economy, philanthropy and organizational development come together to debate strategic culturing and the tools for building cultural narratives that inspire and inform change.

A charcoal sketch study for the "Blouse Roumaine"

This charcoal sketch was probably given by Matisse to his friend Pallady whose collection enetered in the possession of the Museum in Bucharest.
It is to be note that Pallady gave Matisse a whole set of Romanian ethic blouses which were the source of this theme.

BIOGRAPHY:
Elisabeta Rizea was born before the WWI, in a small village of the Southern Carpathians, in County Arges. She was a peasant farmer with a minute plot of land, a little livestock. and a modest wooden cottage, covered in shingles. Her every day’s dress was the national garb, embroidered with intricate patterns. She left school at the age of 14, to do what was expected of her lot - to help making a meagre existence off her small allotment. Her fierce opposition to the communist expropriation of farms and her husband joining the guerrilla fighters in the mountains led to torture and long years of imprisonment. She was branded an ‘enemy of the people’ (‘dusman al poporului’) and her household labelled ‘a home of bandits’ (‘casa de banditi’) – the worst possible indictment in the communist state. During her grilling in the attempt of breaking her will, Elisabeta was tortured and kept hanging from the ceiling, being tied by her long hair. In the notorious Pitesti prison, where she has been held Elisabeta Rizea was kept in chains and put on the death row. She had the formidable strength to resist until her sentence was commuted and she was eventually freed. After Ceausescu’s fall her memoirs and interviews were published and she became a national symbol of the resistance of female peasantry. She won the praise of President Emil Constantinescu (1996-2000) and King Mihai I paid her a private visit, with his family, in her modest cottage in the Carpathian Mountains.

"Art Thinking et al. - Recalibrating the Compass" is the title of the Ars Electronica Garden in Newcastle hosted by Art Thinking Australia (AU), FASTlab: Future Art, Science & Technology Lab (AU), University of Newcastle (AU), City of Newcastle (AU).
Ars Electronica Garden Newcastle 2021 presents an inspirational response to the Global Digital Deal from the Australian coastal region of the Hunter. A place that is quickly evolving and transforming into a new epicenter for collaboration between Art, Science, Technology & Society. On the back of the 2020 Garden, Art Thinking Australia (Ambassadors of Ars Electronica) have found a home deep inside a unique creative & cultural ecosystem that sees academia, industry, governance and artists working alongside each other to create the city of the future. Together with our partners at the University of Newcastle’s FASTlab and City of Newcastle, our garden’s philosophy is to lead with open arms. We have invited leading figures from the Australian Art-Science community to participate in developing our unique perspective towards the New Deal. Locally, we focus on “citizens as stakeholders” and the garden is curated with the ethos of “open, accessible and transdisciplinary education for all of society.” We believe a future smart city means smarter future citizens and therefore our young minds (U18), the real future experts, will take center stage to calibrate the compass and help to navigate the digital impact of our tomorrow. The first RE-DWELL workshop will take place in Lisbon on September 22, 23 and 24, organized by ISCTE-UL will take place in Lisbon. The aim of the workshop is to follow up the development of ESR research by fostering networking between individual research projects and by conducting training activities related to the ongoing structured courses (RMT1 and TS1). Invited speakers from professional practice, academia and local government will address topics related to "Design, planning and construction of affordable and sustainable housing" from multiple perspectives. The lectures will be followed by group discussions and complemented by site visits. Node bodies is a performative project of interactive participation by Italian-born and Swiss-based transdisciplinary artist, performer, curator, theorist and media trainer Pier Giorgio De Pinto. The installation makes each of us, in a random way, a potential knot to be decoded, the source of which has been taken from the immense rhizomatic world of the web.

Frederik De Wilde is a transdisciplinary artist, researcher and interfacer operating on the border area between science, technology and art. The conceptual crux of his artistic praxis are the notions of the intangible, inaudible and invisible.
Data and processes derived from quantum physics, complex systems, psychophysics, nanotechnological and biological systems provide base materials for the works and allow De Wilde to ask how we connect the blind spots between art and science. Moreover, the indistinct, diffuse, ‘fuzzy’ arena where the biological and the technological overlap and commingle is a productive and favored ground for his projects. Eschewing the purely aesthetic, Frederik’s works raise questions regarding the dissemination of art works in the scientific continuum, they explore the artistic and scientific contract and its related social and political implications.
‘Lead Angels 1.0’ is De Wilde’s latest work, a kinetic sound and light installation exploring the concepts of radiation, nuclear energy, randomness and quantum mechanics.
De Wilde studied fine arts, new media art and philosophy. His work ‘Nano Painting – Hostage’, the blackest black art developed with NASA and Rice University, became most widely known. To realize his works he has also collaborated with new media engineers at the University of Leuven, the robotics department of the University of Brussels, the Physics department of the University of Hasselt, Karlsruhe University (KIT), National University of Australia and Melotte. He won various prizes including the Ars Electronica [Next Idea] Award 2010 and the Best European Collaboration Award 2011 and was a Finalist of The World Wide TED Talent Search 2012.

Viorica Ursuleac as Sieglinde
Viorica Ursuleac (26 March 1894 - 22 October 1985) was a Romanian operatic soprano, the daughter of a Greek Orthodox archdeacon, born in Cernauti (Chernowitz, Chernovtsy) which is now in Ukraine.
Following training in Vienna, she made her operatic debut in Zagreb (Agram), as Charlotte in Massenet's Werther, in 1922. The soprano then appeared at the Vienna Volksoper (1924-26), Frankfurt Opera (1926-30), Vienna Staatsoper (1930-35), Berlin Staatsoper (1935-37) and Munich Opera (1937-44). She married the Austrian conductor Clemens Krauss in Frankfurt during her time there.
She was Richard Strauss's favorite soprano, and he called her "die treueste aller Treuen" ("the most faithful of all the faithful"). She sang in the world premieres of four of his operas: Arabella (1933), Friedenstag (which was dedicated to Ursuleac and Krauss, 1938), Capriccio (1942), and the public dress rehearsal of Die Liebe der Danae (1944).
She appeared at the Salzburg Festival (1930-34 and 1942-43) and in one season at Covent Garden (1934), where she sang in the first performances in England of Jaromír Weinberger's Schwanda the Bagpiper and Arabella (her favorite role). She also appeared as Desdemona in Verdi's Otello at the Royal Opera, with Lauritz Melchior in the name part, and Sir Thomas Beecham conducting.
Ursuleac also sang at the Teatro alla Scala, in Richard Strauss's Die Frau ohne Schatten (as the Empress), and Elektra (as Chrysothemis), Mozart's Così fan tutte, and Wagner's Die Walküre (as Sieglinde). Her only American appearances were at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, as Brangäne in Wagner's Tristan und Isolde, opposite Kirsten Flagstad, in 1948. Also in her repertory were the Contessa Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Leonore (Fidelio), Senta (Der fliegende Holländer, with Hans Hotter), Amelia Grimaldi (Simon Boccanegra), Amelia (Un ballo in maschera), Leonora (La forza del destino), Élisabeth de Valois (Don Carlos), Tosca, Minnie (La fanciulla del West), Turandot (opposite Erna Berger's Liù), Der Rosenkavalier, Ariadne auf Naxos (first as the Composer, then as Ariadne), Die ägyptische Helena, etc.
The prima donna was created an Austrian Kammersängerin in 1934, a Prussian Kammersängerin in 1935, and gave her farewell in 1953, in Wiesbaden, in Der Rosenkavalier. She was appointed Professor at the Salzburg Mozarteum in 1964.
Ursuleac's voice was not of great beauty, as least as recorded, but she was reckoned a great musician and actress. In the words of one colleague, the soprano Hildegard Ranczak, "Although she had a lovely, facile top, I was constantly amazed at the two hours' vocalizing she went through before each performance. Hers was, in my opinion, a marvelously constructed, not really natural voice which she used with uncanny intelligence." Ursuleac died at the age of 91, in the village of Ehrwald in the Tyrol, where she had resided since before the 1954 death of Krauss.
