In the infinite cycles of creation and extinction, it gyrates and descends; this theme permeates everything from energy to matter, life, and the universe – the cycles are ubiquitous and ever-present. The exhibition Gyre explores the world as a labyrinth, where there are both motion in stillness and stillness in motion, embracing nonhuman objects and material reality. Based on the artist – Yunchul Kim’s transdisciplinary research into literature, mythology, philosophy, and science, he creates a universe within the Korean Pavilion, where his pataphysical installations continuously metamorphoses and are affected by cosmic events, atmosphere, light, and nature.

O Barco/The Boat, large-scale installation by transdisciplinary artist Grada Kilomba, opens at Somerset House in London, to mark the 10th anniversary of 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair. Formed of 140 wood blocks the 32-metre-long installation draws attention to the forgotten stories and identities of those who suffered during European maritime expansion and colonisation.

Nicki Green (1986- ) is a transdisciplinary artist working primarily in clay and glazed surfaces to explore the integrity of objects and use transness as a lens with which to look at the world.
Mushrooms appear in Green's work as a metaphor for otherness. Green presents a fermentation crock, a jarred vessel intended for the ritual of pickling, surrounded by piles of mushrooms. The crock is adorned with a tessellated pattern of a hexagram. Whether the mushrooms spilled out of the crock or are growing around it is unclear. The artwork represents destruction, resilience, and regeneration.
This sculpture by Nicki Green was seen and photographed at an exhibit entitled 'Tikkun: For the Cosmos, the Community, and Ourselves' at Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco, California.
Lady Elizabeth Asquith, daughter of the 1st Earl of Oxford, British PM married Prince Antoine Bibescu, diplomat at the Romanian Legation in London and settled at the family seat of Mogosoaia near Bucharest.
She figures in an Anthology, (now available as an E-Book) entitled:

Elizabeth Asquith (1897 - 1948) was the daughter of Prime Minister Herbert Asquith. In 1919 she married Prince Antoine Bibesco a flamboyant Romanian diplomat in London and the wedding ceremony took place at the Greek Orthodox church of Sait Sophia in London and at St Margaret's Westminster.
On seeing the inevitable happen that his daughter Elizabeth would marry into a Romanian family, the British Prime Minister Herbert Asquith, 1st Earl of Oxford, (1852-1928) inquired cautiously of his future son-in-law:
“It seems that you have considerable estates in Romania?”
to which the young diplomat, Prince Antoine Bibesco (1878-1952) answered:
“It takes the Orient Express one day to go through me”.

Antoine was a friend of Marcel Proust whom he asked to be his daughter's Godfather: this was Priscilla Bibesco who died in Paris in 2004 in an apartment in l'Ile St Louis, overlooking Notre Dame. This was originally Antoine and Elizabeth's flat in Paris, where they moved after they married: it was decorated with immense canvasses by Vuillard.
Priscilla Bibesco. Elizabeth's daughter was a neighbour and cousin of Princess Marthe Bibesco, who kept a coveted literary salon.
Elizabeth Asquith Bibesco was known as a witty writer of short stories, essays novels plays and poetry. A collection of her papers are kept in the Bodleyan library, Oxford.
Elizabeth had a brief liaison with Katherine Mansfield's husband - John Middleton Murry (1889-1957) at which point Mansfield wrote Asquith a waspish letter:
“I am afraid you must stop writing these little love letters to my husband while he and I live together. It is one of those things which is not done in our world.
You are very young. Won’t you ask your husband to explain to you the impossibility of such a situation.
Please don’t you have to make me write to you again. I do not like scolding people and I simply hate to teach them manners.” (Frank and Anita Kermode op.cit. 496).
At that time Murry (1889-1957) was 33, a socialist and pacifist, an influential literary critic, an Editor of the Athaeneum and friend of notable literary figures such as T. S. Eliot, D. H. Lawrence, and Virginia Woolf. Katherine Mansfield was an established writer, gaining praise for her recently published volume, ironically entitled 'Bliss' (1920), whilst Elizabeth Asquith Bibesco was an aspiring writer. Miss Mansfield did not object to her socialist husband’s affair with an aristocrat, rather to the irritation of seeing these love letters whilst she and Murry still lived under the same roof.

Anne de Romania met Michael in 1947, at the wedding of Princess Elizabeth, now Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain.
Anne and Michael were engaged and married the following year. By that time Michael was forced to abdicate, which means that the title of Queen is only a courtesy title, currently used in Romania.
Anne was born in Paris, Princess of Bourbon Parme and of Denmark.
During the Second World War she enrolled as a volunteer in the "Rochembaud Regiment" which liberated Paris.
Regina Ana entered the history of Romania and was able to visit her country of adoption, only after Ceausescu was removed from power. This first visit was fraught with danger, as the neo-communist authorities curtailed the royal couple’s visit in 1990, in a manner redolent of Stalinist practices. She was expelled from the country within hours of entering Romania. As the daughter of a Danish Royal (Margarethe of Denmark), a grand daughter of Princess Marie d’Orléans, and of Zita the last Empress of Austria-Hungary, Queen Ana is a descendant of Marie Lesczynska and therefore of the ancient Moldavian princely family of Ieremia Movilà, Patron of Bukovinian monasteries. Prince Ieremia Movilà’s reign in Moldavia (1595 – 1600 and 1600 – 1606) marked the country’s late Renaissance flowering in a manner which had not happened before or since.

Its activities are organized by 5 specialized sections (Architecture, Fine Arts, Letters, Music, Sciences & Techniques) led by volunteers assisted by two cultural professionals and the board of directors. A cultural council bringing together all these actors makes it possible to coordinate its activities in a transdisciplinary approach.
Open to all, these events cover a wide spectrum of the cultural field and are often organized in collaboration with outside institutions.
With a prestigious past, a character forged by the philosophy of the Enlightenment combining the useful and the pleasant (the Useful Dulci which is its motto), the Free Society of Emulation is also resolutely turned towards the future. and wishes, in the fields which are its own, to forge links between the living forces of today's society and to build bridges towards the actors of tomorrow.

In addition to early designs, the exhibition features new, previously unseen work by the Dutch duo Lonneke Gordijn and Ralph Nauta – the founders of Studio Drift. Specially for the presentation at the Stedelijk, Studio Drift will create the largest-ever installation of Fragile Future. At the core of the installation will be Fragile Future Chandelier 3.5 (2012) acquired by the museum in 2015. Another highlight is Drifter, a floating concrete monolith measuring four by two by two meters. After making its world première at New York’s Armory Show in 2017, this magical installation will be on display in the IMC Gallery at the Stedelijk. The film Drifters (2016) and the installation Materialism (2018) go on view for the first time. In total, the presentation comprises eight of Studio Drift’s room-filling installations, together with a selection of films.

As a museum that has always placed great importance on both art and design, and performance, the Stedelijk Museum is the perfect venue to display this transdisciplinary work. Cybernetic Systems Theory
Cybernetics and Systems Science (also: "(General) Systems Theory" or "Systems Research") constitute a somewhat fuzzily defined academic domain, that touches virtually all traditional disciplines, from mathematics, technology and biology to philosophy and the social sciences. It is more specifically related to the recently developing "sciences of complexity", including AI, neural networks, dynamical systems, chaos, and complex adaptive systems. Its history dates back to the 1940's and 1950's when thinkers such as Wiener, von Bertalanffy, Ashby and von Foerster founded the domain through a series of interdisciplinary meetings.
Systems theory or systems science argues that however complex or diverse the world that we experience, we will always find different types of organization in it, and such organization can be described by concepts and principles which are independent from the specific domain at which we are looking. Hence, if we would uncover those general laws, we would be able to analyse and solve problems in any domain, pertaining to any type of system. The systems approach distinguishes itself from the more traditional analytic approach by emphasizing the interactions and connectedness of the different components of a system. Although the systems approach in principle considers all types of systems, it in practices focuses on the more complex, adaptive, self-regulating systems which we might call "cybernetic".

Cybernetics is a transdisciplinary approach for exploring regulatory systems, their structures, constraints, and possibilities. In the 21st century, the term is often used in a rather loose way to imply "control of any system using technology;"
Cybernetics is relevant to the study of systems, such as mechanical, physical, biological, cognitive, and social systems. Cybernetics is applicable when a system being analyzed incorporates a closed signaling loop; that is, where action by the system generates some change in its environment and that change is reflected in that system in some manner (feedback) that triggers a system change, originally referred to as a "circular causal" relationship.
System dynamics, a related field, originated with applications of electrical engineering control theory to other kinds of simulation models (especially business systems) by Jay Forrester at MIT in the 1950s.
Concepts studied by cyberneticists include, but are not limited to: learning, cognition, adaptation, social control, emergence, communication, efficiency, efficacy, and connectivity. These concepts are studied by other subjects such as engineering and biology, but in cybernetics these are abstracted from the context of the individual organism or device.
Norbert Wiener defined cybernetics in 1948 as "the scientific study of control and communication in the animal and the machine." The word cybernetics comes from Greek κυβερνητική (kybernetike), meaning "governance", i.e., all that are pertinent to κυβερνάω (kybernao), the latter meaning "to steer, navigate or govern", hence κυβέρνησις (kybernesis), meaning "government", is the government while κυβερνήτης (kybernetes) is the governor or the captain. Contemporary cybernetics began as an interdisciplinary study connecting the fields of control systems, electrical network theory, mechanical engineering, logic modeling, evolutionary biology, neuroscience, anthropology, and psychology in the 1940s, often attributed to the Macy Conferences. During the second half of the 20th century cybernetics evolved in ways that distinguish first-order cybernetics (about observed systems) from second-order cybernetics (about observing systems). More recently there is talk about a third-order cybernetics (doing in ways that embraces first and second-order).
Fields of study which have influenced or been influenced by cybernetics include game theory, system theory (a mathematical counterpart to cybernetics), perceptual control theory, sociology, psychology (especially neuropsychology, behavioral psychology, cognitive psychology), philosophy, architecture, and organizational theory.

Marie Ana Dràgescu is the sole survivor into the 21st century of the all-female air force squadron, the ‘Escadrila albà’, which was active in WWII.
Marie Ana was born in Craiova, the capital of Oltenia, in Southern Romania, the daughter of an army officer and of a music teacher. She graduated from the aviation school in 1935, enrolled immediately thereafter in military manoeuvres and by 1940, aged 28, she became a member of a medical squadron. In 1942, Dràgescu was a member of the 108 light transports squadron of the Military Air Transport Group. At the end of the war, she was a pilot of the 113th squadron. During these operations Dràgescu managed to recover from the war zone over 1,500 wounded soldiers and secure their hospital treatment, behind the front lines.
Dràgescu’s feats brought her several of the highest orders of decoration - the ‘Virtutea Aeronauticà’ decoration, first class with clasp, as well as the ‘Crucea Regina Maria’ and the German Eagle decoration, third class. Yet, in spite of all military honours, Marie Ana Dràgescu remained a woman of an extraordinary modesty and wisdom.
After the war Dràgescu worked for the civil aviation, but the Stalinist purges at the time of Gheorghiu-Dej caught up with her and in spite of her experience and ability she was fired in 1954 for political reasons: it was a miracle that she did not to end up in a prison camp. She found a secretarial job instead, which allowed her to survive until her retirement in 1966.
In 1990, aged 90, once she had witnessed the fall of Ceausescu, Marie Ana Dràgescu’s feats could, at long last, be recorded, and made public. Her military credentials have at long last been restored, being made a Lieutenant (r) of the Romanian Airforce and been awarded the Order of the ‘Star of Romania’, with the grade of Commander. Her feats of arms made the subject of a recent movie, ‘Escadrila albà’, directed by Serban Creangà.

Cybernetics and Systems Science (also: "(General) Systems Theory" or "Systems Research") constitute a somewhat fuzzily defined academic domain, that touches virtually all traditional disciplines, from mathematics, technology and biology to philosophy and the social sciences. It is more specifically related to the recently developing "sciences of complexity", including AI, neural networks, dynamical systems, chaos, and complex adaptive systems. Its history dates back to the 1940's and 1950's when thinkers such as Wiener, von Bertalanffy, Ashby and von Foerster founded the domain through a series of interdisciplinary meetings.
Systems theory or systems science argues that however complex or diverse the world that we experience, we will always find different types of organization in it, and such organization can be described by concepts and principles which are independent from the specific domain at which we are looking. Hence, if we would uncover those general laws, we would be able to analyse and solve problems in any domain, pertaining to any type of system. The systems approach distinguishes itself from the more traditional analytic approach by emphasizing the interactions and connectedness of the different components of a system. Although the systems approach in principle considers all types of systems, it in practices focuses on the more complex, adaptive, self-regulating systems which we might call "cybernetic".

Cybernetics is a transdisciplinary approach for exploring regulatory systems, their structures, constraints, and possibilities. In the 21st century, the term is often used in a rather loose way to imply "control of any system using technology;"
Cybernetics is relevant to the study of systems, such as mechanical, physical, biological, cognitive, and social systems. Cybernetics is applicable when a system being analyzed incorporates a closed signaling loop; that is, where action by the system generates some change in its environment and that change is reflected in that system in some manner (feedback) that triggers a system change, originally referred to as a "circular causal" relationship.
System dynamics, a related field, originated with applications of electrical engineering control theory to other kinds of simulation models (especially business systems) by Jay Forrester at MIT in the 1950s.
Concepts studied by cyberneticists include, but are not limited to: learning, cognition, adaptation, social control, emergence, communication, efficiency, efficacy, and connectivity. These concepts are studied by other subjects such as engineering and biology, but in cybernetics these are abstracted from the context of the individual organism or device.
Norbert Wiener defined cybernetics in 1948 as "the scientific study of control and communication in the animal and the machine." The word cybernetics comes from Greek κυβερνητική (kybernetike), meaning "governance", i.e., all that are pertinent to κυβερνάω (kybernao), the latter meaning "to steer, navigate or govern", hence κυβέρνησις (kybernesis), meaning "government", is the government while κυβερνήτης (kybernetes) is the governor or the captain. Contemporary cybernetics began as an interdisciplinary study connecting the fields of control systems, electrical network theory, mechanical engineering, logic modeling, evolutionary biology, neuroscience, anthropology, and psychology in the 1940s, often attributed to the Macy Conferences. During the second half of the 20th century cybernetics evolved in ways that distinguish first-order cybernetics (about observed systems) from second-order cybernetics (about observing systems). More recently there is talk about a third-order cybernetics (doing in ways that embraces first and second-order).
Fields of study which have influenced or been influenced by cybernetics include game theory, system theory (a mathematical counterpart to cybernetics), perceptual control theory, sociology, psychology (especially neuropsychology, behavioral psychology, cognitive psychology), philosophy, architecture, and organizational theory.

The Goddess of Vidra is an anthropomorphic clay pot belonging to the Neolithic Culture of Gumelnita (Wallachia). Its incisions are ornamented with decorative patterns, typical of Celtic culture.
This artefact is a "Goddess of Fertility", as suggested by the large thighs, an attribute of reproduction... in such instance head was absent altogether.
Note the sgrafitti with geometric patterns, suggestive of Celtic motifs - irrefutable archaeological proof that the Celts of Western Europe came from the Lower Danube.

The whole aspect is almost Cycladic in style, of a kind that one finds in Eastern Mediterranean.
All in all one has the impression that one looks at a precursor of an embroidered Romanian blouse covered in delilcate stitches.

Note the decoration on this clay artefact which precedes by several millenia the intricate but not dissimilar pattern of sticthes that decorate the Romanian ethnic blouses.

The official wedding photograph of Ileana and Anton. They were married in Sinaia and lived in Austria until the war when they took uo residence at castle Bran, in Transylvania, which Ileana inherited from her mother, the late Queen Marie of Romania.

Smirna Kulenović (BIH) is a transdisciplinary artist, activist and researcher based in Vienna, Austria. She is an MA Artist/Researcher and guest lecturer at the Department of Interface Cultures (Interactive Art) at Kunstuniversität Linz. Her practice focuses on transdisciplinary performance, participatory, and public art - as methods of addressing cultural, personal and environmental embodiments of trauma, identity and memory in post-war landscapes. She is currently collaborating with the BioLab and Deep Space (Ars Electonica), as well as with the Institute of Dance at Anton Bruckner Private University.
She is the founder and artistic coordinator of the Collective for artistic research in public space "Dobre Kote" in Lisbon (Portugal) and Sarajevo (BiH) and the international Nomadic Collective for Performing Spontanoues Action TAZ 22 (Brazil, Italy, France, Portugal, Austria, Bosnia).

Nadia Gray (née Herescu), (b. 1923, Bucharest – d. 1994, New York) (Princess Constantin “Bâzu” Cantacuzino), Film Actress, Step-Mother of Linda Gray,Step-mother of Oana Orlea, Exile in the U.S.A.
Nadia’s career as a film actress, took off, in 1948, with the "L'Inconu d’un soir" and "Monseigneur", (1949). Her profession brought her to England and again to Italy where she produced a memorable striptease scene in Federico Fellini’s "La dolce vita" (1960).
In London she co-starred withj David Farrar in "The Night without stars".
Noel Coward said about her audition: "today in walked Nadia Gray: extremely attractive, very intelligent and read so well that I decided on her then and there."

Humankind benefits from a multitude of resources and processes that are supplied by natural ecosystems. Collectively, these benefits are known as ecosystem services and include products like clean drinking water and processes such as the decomposition of wastes. Ecosystem services are distinct from other ecosystem products and functions because there is human demand for these natural assets. Services can be subdivided into five categories: provisioning such as the production of food and water; regulating, such as the control of climate and disease; supporting, such as nutrient cycles and crop pollination; cultural, such as spiritual and recreational benefits; and preserving, which includes guarding against uncertainty through the maintenance of diversity.
As human populations grow, so do the resource demands imposed on ecosystems and the impacts of our global footprint. Many people have been plagued with the misconception that these ecosystem services are free, invulnerable and infinitely available. However, the impacts of anthropogenic use and abuse are becoming evermore apparent – air and water quality are increasingly compromised, oceans are being over-fished, pests and diseases are extending beyond their historical boundaries, deforestation is eliminating flood control around human settlements. It has been reported that approximately 40-50% of Earth’s ice-free land surface has been heavily transformed or degraded by anthropogenic activities, 66% of marine fisheries are either overexploited or at their limit, atmospheric CO2 has increased more than 30% since the advent of industrialization, and nearly 25% of Earth’s bird species have gone extinct in the last two thousand years [1]. Consequently, society is coming to realize that ecosystem services are not only threatened and limited, but that the pressure to evaluate trade-offs between immediate and long-term human needs is urgent. To help inform decision-makers, economic value is increasingly associated with many ecosystem services and often based on the cost of replacement with anthropogenically-driven alternatives. The on-going challenge of prescribing economic value to nature is prompting transdisciplinary shifts in how we recognize and manage the environment, social responsibility, business opportunities, and our future as a species.

that is why Lauren assigned this language some mythical ring about it.
What is extraordinary is the fact that although Lauren's mother herself migrated to the US when she was only a child and came over with her Romanian parents (Lauren's maternal grandparents) the family still carried on speaking Romanian in New York, a language which Lauren's mother and uncles never forgot.

An exciting new research collaboration in spinal cord injury and neurodegenerative disease launches at the University of Technology in Sydney on Wednesday 14 September. The Project Edge initiative, in partnership with SpinalCure Australia and Spinal Cord Injuries of Australia (SCIA) and UTS, will expand on the groundbreaking research of world-renowned spinal cord injury expert, UCLA's Professor Reggie Edgerton, and will be hosted at the new transdisciplinary UTS Centre for Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine, launching in 2017.

The first RE-DWELL workshop will take place in Lisbon on September 22, 23 and 24, organized by ISCTE-UL will take place in Lisbon. The aim of the workshop is to follow up the development of ESR research by fostering networking between individual research projects and by conducting training activities related to the ongoing structured courses (RMT1 and TS1). Invited speakers from professional practice, academia and local government will address topics related to "Design, planning and construction of affordable and sustainable housing" from multiple perspectives. The lectures will be followed by group discussions and complemented by site visits. A roundtable to discuss transdisciplinary research for affordable and sustainable housing will be open to the public via an online session on Thursday 23 at 10:00

Note the elongated (phallic) neck the prominent hips and bosoms - al symbols of fertility.
The missing head is a rule (no need to think - just to procreate!). A few incisions decorate the body.

Here is the unpacked photo - this is what I brought (and acquired) on a 32 day trip to Australia. One challenge is that I had to pack for weather ranging form tropical (Daintree Rain forest and Great barrier Reef) to Urban (Sydney, Melbourne) to Alpine (Overland Track in Tasmania)

- Asolo hiking boots (well broken in, worn on all airplane flights)
- Spare pair of inserts (I need these and I walk a lot)
