1965 GMC Pick up truck & topper
On April Fools Day of 1970 I was laid off from my job as an Inspection Supervisor at a defense contractor (ECI), in St. Petersburg FL. This did not come as a surprise because I had expected it for six months or so. And I had thought about what I should do when it did happen. I was 33 years old, single and had saved enough money to allow me to travel and see the country until I was tired of it, so that was the plan. In 1970 gas was about 25 to 35 cents per gallon, over night parking was free at a filling station, to $3.00 per night at a KOA. By the end of the first week of lay off, I had bought the truck and started rebuilding the engine. My Brother wanted me to replace it with a 400 cu. in. Pontiac V8 like the one in my GTO. If I had realized I would be driving it for the to next 32 years I would have. After the engine was finished, I built the topper, and we took a trip to the Smokey Mountains on Memorial Day weekend to try it out. After the trip I finished the inside with cabinets and storage, and painted the truck. During this time I went on a ten day boating trip to the Keys, and an eleven day trip to the Rockies. I am about to start a no destination trip out west, after Labor Day!

A can of Heady Topper from The Alchemist in Waterbury, Vermont, shared at Borefts 2012.
Alchemist Heady Topper is an 8% abv and 120 IBU double IPA. It poured a hazy golden color with a white head. The smell was an aroma explosion of fresh hops, with both tropical fruits and resiny pine notes - it was like a walk through a forest in the spring. Amazing! The mouthfeel was medium heavy with a soft, creamy texture. The flavor followed up the aroma, with a nice caramel sweetness balancing the high bitterness and giving the fruity floral hop character a chance to blossom. I also noted ripe peaches and grapefruit in the taste.
I was absolutely mesmerized by this beer, it's a world class double india pale ale!
A cake topper I built for my wedding. My wife liked it enough to use it at the reception, but since she already had picked out a cake topper, this one went on the groom's cake.

In an unusual move, Dualway have been using open toppers on their north coast tour in the past few weeks, usually RV 494 & now 498, seen here at Malahide Castle.
Memories of "7 UP " Atlantean DF450 operating the north & south coast tours of yesterday, with their free can of the fizzy stuff & amazing views enroute....as well as getting lashed by low hanging trees & leaves, in a health & safety culture, its a wonder how this continues today, especially given the leafy roads to the castle & beyond.
This could well be 498's last thrill as Dualway is acquiring some more ALX400's from excess Dublin Bus stock soon.

The Dublin Bus & Dualway north coast tours have returned for summer 2013 with Malahide Castle reopening.
The castle & grounds have been extensively renovated over the last year, with new restaurants & the grounds including the walled garden reopened.
Malahide Castle has been an integral part of both the Dublin Bus & Dualways " north coast tour ".
Again, honored to partake in this wedding (coming soon) and hired to create this wedding cake topper with Prime and Arcee. This time around, Prime is handing Arcee the Matrix, and Arcee is in Light Green and Pink attire to match the actual weddings theme colors. Mounted and fused to a 6" diameter base.
I finished the Super Mario topper today ..... I had so much fun with it that I can't wait to do the whole cake !
Our son ( 39 going on 9 ! ) gave me advice on the characters and symbols ...... so glad all those hours on your Gameboy weren't wasted Andrew ! ;o))
For scale, it is sitting on a 5" drum and is 6" high.
