Chisel conquers all.

I completed the painting of my kitchen over the weekend. The next stage of my renovation project involves removing the existing tiles and laying down newer, much nicer ones.

And man, the old tiles are hard to remove. However, they don't stand a chance against the hammer and CHISEL that I purposely brought from Home Depot to exterminate these suckers.

The chisel has been doing a great job; my wrist, on the other hand, has not. My right wrist tires after the third or fourth tile, requiring constant breaks to recover is hp. I still have maybe 150 tiles to remove. :( If there is any consolation, I expect my wrist to be that much stronger after this ordeal. I hope it will be able to last 10 tiles after some more practice.

My badminton buddies better watch out for my smash! :P

P.S. My walls are done in the background. :)

The trend for our little 52 photo project is for the photos to be B&W, or nearly so, at least. I thought I'd mix things up by taking a shot of something that already IS B&W, but in color!

However, that didn't look as nice as I expected. For one thing, the walls and ceiling in this room are a dark tan/terra cotta plaster. So, the bounced flash was really picking up that color - in particular in the background.

Additionally, in color, the foreground showed a lot of little splashes of various pastel nail polishes due to a horrible accident involving a bucket full of nail polish, and a small child.

The stained wood door of the bathroom STILL has splash marks!

That wasn't exactly the look I was going for, so back to B&W for me!

This is the tile floor of our bathroom - one of my favorite features in our house. Interestingly, if you were able to see the entire floor, there is one or two areas where the small black and white tiles are in the wrong place - reversed. It's like a little beauty mark for the floor!

Taken with my trusty 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 kit lens on a Nikon D60. Sb600 flash, bounced off the ceiling. Edited slightly for color (or lack of color) in GIMP.

The continued search for bathroom tile

We are about to start remodeling parts of our house and these are the tile options that the wife brought home today from a vendor. This would go inside our 1/2 bath floor and some of the wall. I instantly liked the bubble patterns, but we're still going to have to shop around a bit more before we make any solid decisions.

Beautiful artwork and craftsmanship on display. An interesting place.

What's left of the entryway on the Pacific Avenue side of the former Luzon building, which has become exposed with the dust clearing.

What was amusing to me was that at some point they tried to make this entry ADA-compliant, so they poured concrete over the tiling to make more of a smooth transition to the doorway from the sidewalk. The concrete apparently didn't hold onto the smooth tile very well (or after all the demolition work and equipment was across it) so it just plucks right up, leaving the tile more or less preserved... so I guess that wasn't such a bad thing afterall. The tile itself is embedded in its original concrete so taking a chunk would require a bunch of work and tools. A craft project using this pattern will be underway...? Another corner of this.

Yay! Ceiling tiles in the games room!
