Happy Furry Friday

Dogsitting in Coconut Grove, FL

Yes, I am dogsitting again. This time not just for the weekend, but for 10 days.

Actually I am here in the Grove since last Saturday and since then I've been trying to get them to pose for me, but without any luck whatsoever. I might have had one sitting still just for the other to run into the frame, usually right when I pressed the shutter. And, all I got was a furry blur.

So today I took my wide-angle lens and thought I try some artsy shots. That didn't work too well either until I grabbed some treats, held them in my left hand over my head, had the camera in my right hand and just fired away.

So here they are, from left to right: Virgil, whom you already have met, Benny, his son, and Idgy. Virgil and Benny are Cairn Terriers, 2 years and 8 months old, and Idgy is a Keeshond and with 15 years the senior of the household.

Milkjam's newest flavor--Three Amigos (Mexican coffee with churro pieces and spiced chocolate). This one is definitely a winner. My one tip would be to eat it somewhat quickly or the churro pieces will get soggy.

Karni Mata Temple/Rajasthan/India (The temple is famous for its rats, which are treated as sacred and given protection in the temple. They say that, if one of these thousand rats is killed, it must be replaced with one made of solid gold and sighting a white rat is considered specially auspicious...)

As I couldn't get decent shots of the filming in Marina Square I approached the film crew who were waiting for the action to start. Each one looked a great character in their own right but sitting together they reminded me of the three Amigos.

I would have loved to have talked to them about the strangers project and get a shot of each one separately but they were busy people and I had to make do with one shot of them all. I'm sure they would have said 'it's rather cool'.

My 3 reflector telescopes. On the left the Meade Starnavigator NG 130mm (D=130mm / F=1000mm), in the middle the Tasco (D=114mm / F=900mm), and on the right the Byomic (D=114mm / F=500mm). The Tasco is a 70's model telescope, with a tripod of wood.

Edit (3 october 2020): After a deep research, it turns out that this model ( Tasco, model 11TE-5 ) is from 1960.

* Edit 18-January-2021 - After sorting some boxes with magazines and books, I found the original user / instruction manual of the Tasco / Pollux telescope. It can be found here: tomhardeveld.blogspot.com/2021/01/the-user-manual-of-114m...

This card was made using all Mama Elephant stamps and inspiration from Jenn Shurkus's card on this post shurkus.com/cards/simon-says-stamp-wednesday-challenge-in.... I used the general design of the card and subsituted stitched lines for the gold sparkle paper and the animal is holding a balloon in mine vs a banner in Jenn's. Jenn is celebrating 10 years...wow thats amazing isnt it!

So for my card, I stamped the image on grey cards stock and then used prisma colour pencils for the darker grey areas. Fussy cut out the white paper and added that on top. Lined the star bubble with a memento maker pen and then fussy cut that and added a hand drawn string. I layered the yay sentiment using foam tape on the yay part and then regular liquid adhesive on the strings leading to and from the sentiment. Went with the rainbow theme for the ME challenge and added dots around the image to highlight it. I am submitting this to shurkus.com/everyday-life/happy-10th-blogiversary, www.simonsaysstampblog.com/wednesdaychallenge/simon-says-..., www.mamaelephantblog.com/2015/07/june-stamp-with-me-winne..., 7kidschallengeblog.blogspot.com/2015/07/challenge-129-any..., sugarpeadesigns.com/blog/2015/06/17/spd17-feeling-sentime...

My sister and I often talk about Mom. We really wish she could have been here for all the drama we've been going through. She would have loved it (and would have loved to throttle my sister's sociopathic, lying, thieving ex).

Sometimes, we'll be doing something and for a microsecond, we'll want to grab the phone and call Mom. And then we remember. Mom has been gone for 4 years, now.

We often second guess ourselves where Mom is concerned. We should have done more for her. We should have visited with her more often. Shoulda-woulda-coulda. But, the one thing we did right was let Mom know she was always loved, even right up to that last day.

Happy Mother's Day to all you moms out there. And, hey kids, call your mom more often. Talk to her more often. Visit her more often. Let her know she is loved.
