Golden-crowned Sparrows on a rainy winter day.

All three dogs on alert as something interesting happens on the other side of the gate. I was happy to get one of Bean, tiny Kobe and big girl Glory together as you can really see their size in relation to each other. The two smaller dogs can easily fit through the bars, though they prefer to stay on the side of the fence Glory is on. She is their protector.

A good friend and fellow photographer, Merv Colton, www.mervcolton.com/ came to town last weekend. Another good friend Stuart prairiedog and I spent time with Merv capturing some of the wildlife at the Fort Whyte Center in our city.

This is Merv's third trip to visit us from Ireland and we thoroughly enjoyed our time. You can see more of Merv's work on his flickr spot Here.

Collecting these lenses has made be feel somewhat like Thanos seeking out the Infinity Stones! I can finally breathe a sigh of relief now that I have all three. From left to right; FA 77/1.8, FA31/1.8 and FA43/1.9.

"Looks like somebody's been down here with the ugly stick..."

One evening when I was out photographing I cam across these three boys. They were playing in the entrance to their home. I asked them by gesturing and pointing to my camera if they would like a photos taken. They were very enthusiastic and agreed immediately.

I know it is not technically perfect and I would have preferred if the little boy with glasses on had not raised his hand but that to me captures their spirit and enthusiasm how I remember it.

The Seville Fair (Spanish: Feria de abril de Sevilla, "Seville April Fair") is held in the Andalusian capital of Seville, Spain.

The fair generally begins two weeks after the Semana Santa, or Easter Holy Week.

Over the years Seville’s April Fair has become an internationally known celebration of flamenco, bullfighting and fun. Flamenco is an integral part of the tradition because Seville is considered to be the cultural epicenter of flamenco culture and music.

Many of the flamenco’s most famous artists, songs and composers are from the city.

Laos is blessed with some of Asia’s nicest rivers, and many of them are mellow. Children spent the day at school, and by the afternoon they were doing the chores required of them…building a fire for the kitchen, sweeping the leaves into a pile, or caring for the young siblings strapped to their back …young boys and girls from the age of seven or eight attentive to the baby’s every need. Amongst this was the laughter of children playing in the river. But sometimes they skip their days at school, going fishing and collecting snails from the river, or using long bamboo poles to knock crickets from the trees. They eat the crickets live or drop them into bottles and take them home for lunch or dinner.

Photo taken nearby the Tad Lo waterfall near the little town Kieng Than Lei - Laos. These ragged little urchins spend most of their days not at school, but fishing and collecting snails from the river. School is important for ethnic minority kids, they should attend and complete primary education in order to overcome rural/urban, ethnic in the area of literacy and education. But it isn't that easy. The reason to skip school are the family economic considerations, involvement in family maintenance and subsistence tasks, the lack of perceived benefits from education. While poverty and lack of access are issues. In addition to these, ethnic minority kids have to face further barriers to education, including the distance from school facilities, their extreme poverty, and additional cultural barriers and the lack of fluency in the national language, Lao. The ethnic kids speak their own language. About 32% of all Laotians are related to Ethnic groups. Totally 160 ethnic groups and speak 82 distinct living languages.

Rivers, mountains and forests thanks to these natural resources this planet can host many forms of life. Lao people depend on natural resources for their livelihood, their relationship with nature is very close. Their livelihood is inseparable from nature. For centuries throughout Laos, people have depended on rich biodiversity. Pa Dek is an essential food for Lao people. Every meal includes some. Pa Dek can be mixed in to add flavor to any Lao food. Pa Dek itself is the main food of Laos. Pa Dek is a non perishable food. Once it is prepared, it can be keep for a year or more even without refrigerating. Pa Dek can be kept in an airtight jar. With Pa Dek, people are happy, they rest assured that they have a long term supply of food for their family. Pa Dek is made from fish that people catch from natural bodies of water. They maybe rivers, lakes, ponds, wells, or wetlands, depending on the season. People catch fish for Pa Dek at the start of the rainy season. At this time, water levels in the rivers are higher, and fish begin migrating to spawning areas. When water levels begin to lower, fish again come downstream for dry season. Lao people know they can catch the most fish in the rainy season.

Hard to remember another photo session as fun as the one I had recently with these three Osceola turkeys. They were always together, fan dancing and gobbling around the Florida prairie. You can't buy that kind of entertainment.

Zantedeschia is a genus of twenty-eight species of herbaceous flowering plants in the family Araceae, native to southern Africa from South Africa north to Malawi. The name of the genus was given as a tribute to Italian botanist Giovanni Zantedeschi (1773-1846) by the German botanist Kurt Sprengel (1766 - 1833). Common names include Arum lily for Z. aethiopica, calla, and calla lily for Z. elliottiana and Z. rehmannii although it is neither a true lily (Liliaceae), nor Arum or Calla (related genera in Araceae).

The Zantedeschia are rhizomatous herbaceous perennial plants growing to 1-2.5 m tall with leaves 15-45 cm long. The inflorescence is a showy white, yellow or pink spathe shaped like a funnel with a yellow, central, finger-like spadix

The ¡Three Amigos! in Lego Minifigure form.

This photo is a recreation of the Desert/Lip Balm scene from the ¡Three Amigos! movie.

If you aren't familiar with this scene, you can watch it here:

youtu.be/trMOanQQIJ8

From the left:

- Ned Nederlander (Martin Short)

- Lucky Day (Steve Martin)

- Dusty Bottoms (Chevy Chase)

The minifigures are primarily the Mariachi from Series 16 of the Lego Collectable Minifigures, with the following changes:

- I took their hats off, and attached them to a neck bracket.

- I removed their mustaches.

- I gave each minifigure a different head/face.

- I gave each minifigure a different hair style/piece.

The original scene takes place in a flat desert, but I decided to create the Lego landscape with a few small hills, a cactus, and some prickly bushes. I used dark tan for the sand because... well, that is the colour of the pieces that I had available.

Or should that be ménage-aux-chats? Either way, it's safe to say our three rescue cats are pretty darn happy together. From top to bottom: Ella (adopted May 2013) and Mel and Louis, whom we adopted together at 5 months old in October 2011. (It's no surprise to see Mel snuggled into the middle here - the filling of the cat sandwich - because he absolutely adores his siblings.) Without a doubt, they are the most adorable trio we ever could have wished for. So unique and FULL of character, they make every day - no matter how crappy - a little extra special :-)

Ella, Mel and Louis are all rescues from Vancouver's fabulous local volunteer rescuers, VOKRA (Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association - although they're not always kittens). My other favourite charity to support is the wonderful organization SAINTS - Senior Animals in Need Today Society - whose animals range from goldfish to rabbits to lamas, and donkeys. And, of course, there's always the great work of the BCSPCA.

So, if you're contemplating whether to donate on this upcoming "Giving Tuesday", then I would highly, HIGHLY, recommend these fine organizations. No matter how much or how little you can afford, you can rest assured every single dollar really does help :-)

Johnny, Angelica, and unknown

(sadly I lost a good chuck of my cliff notes on this cool group of friends)

Today was a good day photographically speaking, I captured many a stranger (including a fellow Flickr photographer Richard Hurd). I still felt a sense of adventure to capture more photographs, even though the sun was setting I knew that it had been full filling. I found myself drawn to the lake, as the clouds had parted from afternoon sprinkles and a glow was growing in the Western sky. I went to my favorite summer hang out for sunset, and was pleasantly surprised to find an most glorious site unfolding before my eyes. I opted for a different photo of the day then the sunset (like I said, a good day for photos), but still managed to process and upload the sunset (linked here.

Whe sun had dropped below the horizon and the orange cast was reflected onto the grass and those enjoying the sunset; I turned around and find a group of friends. One spoke to me and asked if I was getting any good pictures, she being Angelica (in the middle of this group photo). I smiled and went and sat with the three, showing off the photos of not only the sunset but the other members I had to add to my 608 strangers, this is when it clicked and I offered to take a photo of the three of them for the project. Easy as that, I changed my 18mm to my 50mm (not so wide needed for only a three people group shot) and we clicked off a few frames.

Angelica told me that she enjoyed taking pictures, and after exchanging email and Flickr names I ran back to my car. I had my collection of prints from my show at the Yellow Rose Gallery, I wanted to share them with her and Johnny and the other girl who I have forgotten her name. We sat in the grass and talked photography for a little bit, but as the sun was gone and light was now nearly gone we had to part ways. Such is the life of a photographer capturing strangers, quick moments and good memories. With that I suggest giving the 100 strangers a try, no limits on when to take the photos makes it less of a challenge then the 365 project BUT it's fun none the less!
