I needed some color in my photostream. I know that I probably should have just started a, 'Piers Series' by now, but.. whatever. I'll stop with them for a bit. ;)

Rachel Davis of Còig (Ko-ig) is a triple threat, playing the fiddle (and viola), performing vocals, and step dancing.
Còig was the headliner group on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. I would have liked to have gotten photos under the lights on Saturday night, but it was pouring, and my camera remained under my rain cape.
Còig means 'five' in Gaelic. We saw four members on Saturday and three on Sunday. They were already on the road on Sunday when they were asked to return because the group that was to be featured was prevented due to airplane problems.

This was taken in very bad light today but this was the first time I've been able to get a shot of this behaviour. Obviously things are hotting up on the territorial front already and two pairs of moorhens came into contact. There was a great deal of while tail displaying and they were angling their tails at the opposition to make them more obvious. There wasn't much calling so it was a relatively silent affair compared to a coot impasse.

Upon returning from a two week break in Cornwall, UK, I discovered, after uploading my latest batch of captures, that the macro world contains dangers once thought to have only been prevalent in the sea.. Of course it could be just a harmless silk sail, and I hope for the fly's sake, that it really is :-)
Roan Antelope (Hippotragus equinus), one of the largest species of antelope live in the tropical and subtropical grasslands and savannas of Africa. White facial markings -- known as a threat mask -- is intended to intimidate predators.

The beautiful Cubbington South Wood under threat of destruction to make way for HS2. This is probably the last year to capture these amazing wild spring flowers. ( Greater Stitchwort and the English Bluebell)
When they feel threatened, mantis try to make themselves look larger and intimidating. I made some quick movements and this mantis immediately went into its display posture, letting me know how it felt! Within 10 seconds it had calmed down and returned to its normal posture.
Check out those EXQUISITE WINGS... Just wow. Observe the intricate and lacy segments woven into the transparent areas. They have four wings, with two wings acting as a cover and protector for its main two wings, which are used for flying. While able to fly, mantis rarely do, preferring to walk and prowl about as they hunt and explore.

A Griffon vulture (gyps fulvus) flying in circles, soaring to higher levels above the Conca de Tremp, in the Catalan Pyrenees.
You could almost feel as they (it was not alone, about 30 more of them were flying arround) observe you, maybe as a potential threat, maybe as a source of meat...

A follow up image to my 'Walking with monsters' comp I did a little while back. Our heroine makes her way through abandoned buildings, felling any threat that gets in her way.
Luckily I've never had access problems anywhere I've lived. I do get fed up with the way visitors to my neighbours park sometimes (often actually) but it's never too hard to get in. Having a small car helps too.
Often in older residential areas access and parking is now a constant problem. Cars are more numerous, bigger, and councils seem to be continually imposing more and more parking restrictions. This latter especially annoys me as most of these restricted places seem to be half empty most of the time.
This is one possible solution. Obviously the owner would get into trouble were they to carry out the threat, but at least it reminds people. I'll admit there's been times I've thought about painting some double yellow lines opposite my house....
