For weeks the weather had been terrible hot, and now the pinnacle presented itself as if the earth was about to scorch.

Suddenly there was no wind and only a few slow waves brought any movement to the boat.

It was as if clouds of steam were being chased towards the sea, and they had a menacing appearance like the steam of a runaway gigantic steam locomotive.

From far you could hear the roar of thunder in the lonely mountains........

A beautiful ominous natural spectacle that makes the hair stand on end.

It didn't bode well........

although I saw hippos every day during the Kafue trip last November I did not get great shots. Some of the encounters in the rather shallow water of the Kafue River were so close that taking an image was not a priority ...

Molyvos, the picturesque seaside village of North Aegean island of Lesvos, is facing heavy economic damage this summer, due to Covid-19, following a sharp drop in tourist traffic in recent years due to the refugee problem.

The same for summer 2021.

This mute swan was exhibiting this classic posture where it's wings are raised as it swam around this small lake. I read on Wikipedia that this behavior is known as busking and is a threat display. Although they said that this may also allow the swan to wind surf. So, maybe it's just threatening to wind surf or wind surfing to threaten... Go figure... ;-)

The monastery was founded by St. Patrick in the 5th century and the remnants of the High Crosses and Round Tower are indicative of its importance. The monastery was linked to St Maelruns monastery of Tallaght and adopted the practices of the Ceile De movement. The Vikings raided the monastery in 932 and it was again burned in 1114. It was the threat from the Vikings, which led to the building of the round tower in the 9th/10th century. A town developed around the monastery with buildings of timber and mud which have since been obliterated by wind and weather. The Round Tower at Old Kilcullen is about 10m high and it has a round-headed doorway. This is less than 2m above ground level and about 1.7m high.

Ancient history books such as the Annals of the Four Masters tell of terrible Danish attacks on Kilcullen in 936 and 944 AD. This probably led to the construction of the Round Tower.

The tower is approximately 40 ft high and the top parts suffered a lot of damage in 1798. An account written in 1782 tells of there being four large windows in the upper part of the tower but only the semblance of one now remains. The village which developed around the edge of the monastery continued to exsist until it was distroyed in a battle on 24th May 1798.

Some time ago I promised (threatened) a puddle picture to two... (This is just an experiment.)

English Ivy can be found everywhere in my neighborhood. The roots are tenacious, attaching to anything and allowing the plant to grow up and around trees, houses and other structures. In the state of Oregon, this plant is now considered invasive and it is illegal to sell it. This doesn't stop me from admiring each stage of its growth...at least in the photographic sense. Of course, if I find some in my garden, I'll be the first to hastily remove it.

"When the threat is so uncertain (and potentially far-reaching) the problem of communication right now is too much communication from everybody (medically not authoritative) … and too much media exposure, we know, can heighten one’s ANXIETY."

I know what THAT feels.

Both adults reacted to any airborne raptor, other Eagles, Vultures or Ravens. The screaming even rattled me a little it was so intense at times, it seemed to be effective the flyovers were gone in a hurry.
