For weeks the weather had been terrible hot, and now the pinnacle presented itself as if the earth was about to scorch.

Suddenly there was no wind and only a few slow waves brought any movement to the boat.

It was as if clouds of steam were being chased towards the sea, and they had a menacing appearance like the steam of a runaway gigantic steam locomotive.

From far you could hear the roar of thunder in the lonely mountains........

A beautiful ominous natural spectacle that makes the hair stand on end.

It didn't bode well........

Molyvos, the picturesque seaside village of North Aegean island of Lesvos, is facing heavy economic damage this summer, due to Covid-19, following a sharp drop in tourist traffic in recent years due to the refugee problem.

The same for summer 2021.

Dear friends

thank you so much for your great support

I am just back and happy to tell you things are better now. We had few very dark moments but now the danger is away. The recovery will be long, but it doesn't matter any more...

Once again thank you and I am back on flickr :))))))

Hypopyrrhus pyrohypogaster

(Red-bellied Grackle / Cacique candela)

The red-bellied grackle is endemic to Colombia where it is found in all three Andean ranges at altitudes of 800 to 2,400m (2,600 to 7,900ft) above sea level.

Its natural habitat is tropical forest, but the trees are increasingly being felled for timber and to make way for agriculture, and little virgin forest remains within its range.

H. pyrohypogaster was formerly classified as "endangered" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature but in 2012 the threat level was lowered to "vulnerable". This is on the basis that, although its forest habitat remains under pressure, it has been found at some new locations where it was not known before. The total population is now estimated to be in the range 2,500 to 9,999 individuals.

Looking Close On Friday

Years ago people thought sweating eggs may cause a bacteria threat. This theory was debunked because an egg has a chemical compound that naturally occurs in the egg's inner membrane to protect it from bacteria. Good to know!

Some time ago I promised (threatened) a puddle picture to two... (This is just an experiment.)

After sitting all day due to 2 crippled grey and orange cowls and the need for the DMVW to help rescue their train caught in the middle of BNSF's Jamestown Sub., empty lignite train E-SPIBMK0-66 is finally ready to leave the hole at Ladoga. A third cowl was brought out the 60-odd miles from Bismarck to the train by the BNSF to limp these Spiritwood ND empties back to home rails and loading up at Coal Creek near Falkirk. It was worth the drive out after mid day to get a rare 3 cowl unit lashup image of the train, even if it all went down right at last light.

My attempt at the "Looking Close... on Friday" theme "Silhouette".

English Ivy can be found everywhere in my neighborhood. The roots are tenacious, attaching to anything and allowing the plant to grow up and around trees, houses and other structures. In the state of Oregon, this plant is now considered invasive and it is illegal to sell it. This doesn't stop me from admiring each stage of its growth...at least in the photographic sense. Of course, if I find some in my garden, I'll be the first to hastily remove it.

Robbins can be surprisingly aggressive. The red breast plays an important part in the threat display and is held so that an intruding Robin sees as much of the territory holders's breast as possible. If the display song and posturing fail to drive an intruding Robin away then the territory holder may resort an all-out attack and such attack can sometimes result in the death of one individual.

Been watching two male Robins showing off. It was amazing.

Unfortunately I couldn't get both on

Both adults reacted to any airborne raptor, other Eagles, Vultures or Ravens. The screaming even rattled me a little it was so intense at times, it seemed to be effective the flyovers were gone in a hurry.
