Picked up my new glasses today. The 1.54 mid index lenses are much thicker than my 1.67 high index lenses. Unfortunately the bifocal line is too high and the nose pads cannot be adjusted due to the thickness of the lenses. Problems, problems, problems.

Honestly, I did not find 1.54 better vision than 1.67, and I did have high hopes because so many of you told me that it would be. Im very glad I tired 1.54, but I did not notice "crisper" vision at all. I much prefer 1.67 because the lenses are not as thick.

I'd like to try 1.74 because the lenses would even be thinner, but they are not able to make a bifocal in 1.74.

The Queens Zoo is an 18-acre zoo located in Flushing Meadows–Corona Park in Queens, New York City.

The thick-billed parrot is a medium-sized parrot endemic to Mexico that formerly ranged into the southwestern United States. Its position in parrot phylogeny is the subject of ongoing discussion; it is sometimes referred to as thick-billed macaw or thick-billed conure.

We went to this zoo for the first time... it was so beautiful and the animals are all well cared for... I took close to 300 shots, so using the collage makes it easy to post them all...

It was remiss of me not to inform my contacts of my screen name change. I didn't want my name splattered over pages and pages with each comment I made.......

Burhinus capensis

One of my favourite birds. It was resting in this position and saw this quite often so I assume it's a regular, comfortable posture. Being crepuscular and nocturnal, its big yellow eye is a real target in any photo. They are particularly vocal on moon-lit nights...(a wee bit of trivia there LOL)

Looking to see some new and exciting birds this year?

I have information for two tours this year to Ecuador and Costa Rica. If you have yet to visit one of these beautiful places, or you are looking to go again, these tours will definitely make your year!

MESSAGE ME IF INTERESTED AND FOR MORE INFO :D

This is just one of the striking species you can expect to see on the Ecuador tour.

Castel del Monte, Andria (BT), Puglia, Italia

Castel del Monte is a 13th-century citadel and castle situated on a hill in Andria in the Apulia region of southeast Italy. It was built during the 1240s by the Emperor Frederick II.

It has neither a moat nor a drawbridge and some considered it never to have been intended as a defensive fortress; however, archaeological work has suggested that it originally had a curtain wall.

I have spent ages scouring fields for this bird's British cousin, the stone curlew. This one in Irene (between Johannesburg and Pretoria) walked out from behind a tree right in front of me just asking to be photographed.

Hammarö sydspets in Värmland, Sweden.

Small finchlike bird, compact and short-tailed. Generally yellow below and dark blue-black above with stout bill. To identify male and throat: on Thick-billed, crown is entirely yellow and throat is yellow. Females are extremely difficult to separate from other euphonias, especially Yellow-crowned, but often seen in pairs or small groups with more distinctive males. Frequents open forested habitats, edges, and gardens. Can form mixed feeding flocks with other species such as warblers and tanagers.

This one was photographed in Colombia guided by Neotropic Photo Tours.

A large sandy-brown bird with soft plumage which frequents wet habitats, mainly in coastal areas.

A male thick-legged hoverfly taking a short rest on a garden fern in between fights with all comers - even bees - on the thyme bush.

The swollen thighs make this quite an easy hoverfly to identify, but it's not the only species with this characteristic. To be sure grey dusting of the thorax sides (not well shown in this shot, but I have others) must also be present.

Thick-knees are also known as dikkops or stone curlews. They are mainly nocturnal but this one was seen early morning at Lake Langano, Ethiopia.

A close look at the Great Thick-knee. Sadly the legs were hidden by the rocks.

Bush Stone-curlew (AKA Bush Thick-knee) (Burhinus grallarius)
