The Thick-billed Euphonia is distributed from Costa Rica south to southern Amazonia. The male has entirely yellow underparts from throat to vent save for a small terminal patch of white on the undertail.

The water thick-knee (Burhinus vermiculatus), or water dikkop is a species of bird in the thick-knee family Burhinidae. The species is found across sub-Saharan Africa, usually close to water.

The water thick-knee has a widespread distribution in sub-Saharan Africa, being found in Angola, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Somalia, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Across its range it is found on the edges of lakes, estuaries and rivers, as well as mangroves and also some sheltered beaches. It also needs bushes or nearby woodlands for shelter. It is found from sea-level to 1,800 m (5,900 ft).[2]

Please view on black, large.

Here, on the right banks the colour is still mostly green ever so slightly turning yellow, also Autumn!

It is serenely quiet across the water, and nothing is rippling the surface, so the reflections are smooth.

It starts to rain more, but it passes quickly, on the little beach we photograph from, there are trees which give us some protection.

Loch Lubnaig is a small freshwater loch near Callander in the Stirling council area, Scottish Highlands.

It lies in the former county of Perthshire.

It is part of the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park.

It is around 5 km long, and has depths of up to 44.5 metres.

The loch nestles in the space between Ben Ledi and Ben Vorlich.

Fed by the River Balvaig from the north and drained by the Garbh Uisge to the south, Loch Lubnaig offers fishing from the shore.

Have a wonderful day and thanks for your visit, so very much appreciated, Magda, (*_*)

A collage I made during the COVID-19 lockdown -- perfect for a literary insult to the 45th president of the United States. He is rather thick-witted (at best). See my Redbubble site for some products: www.redbubble.com/people/thadz/works/47287336-thick-wit?a...

The water thick-knee is a terrestrial feeder that forages at night. Although it is typically associated with water it can be found foraging up to 1 km (0.62 mi) from water. It feeds on insects, crustaceans and mollusks.[2]

The water thick-knee generally breeds in the dry season or early rainy season. It is a monogamous breeder with both parents guarding the nest and brooding the eggs. The nest is a simple scrape in sandy or stony ground, usually close to water. The clutch size is two sandy-yellow eggs. Both sexes incubate the eggs for 22-25 days, and both are responsible for feeding the young. Unique among birds, thick-knee pairs frequently nest adjacent to and sometimes directly on top of Nile crocodile nests. The two species share a form of symbiotic mutualism with the more energetic and vocal thick-knee functioning as loud sentries for the nests as the more powerful crocodile provides protection. Should a nest raider approach, the thick-knee pair will spread their wings in a threat display and harass and peck at the intruders to drive it off. If the pair not be successful, the mother crocodile will be drawn in by their continued calls and arrive.[2]

Thick fog out on the highway so I took the old road through the hamlet of Jericho, Tasmania to see what could be seen (or not).

The road running through the centre is the old Midlands Highway. I remember coming through here as a kid but Jericho has been bypassed for well over 50 years.

In many respects, the road less travelled.

Madikwe Game Reserve is made up of dense woodlands in some areas. Even a giraffe could hope to use it as camouflage. That is if it doesn't get stuck in the thick vegetation.

Small finchlike bird, compact and short-tailed. Generally yellow below and dark blue-black above with stout bill. To identify male euphonias, focus on crown and throat: on Thick-billed, crown is entirely yellow and throat is yellow. Females are extremely difficult to separate from other euphonias, especially Yellow-crowned, but often seen in pairs or small groups with more distinctive males.
