Manor, Texas is just east of Austin and is still pretty rural. Austin is spreading out that way but not as fast as it is toward the north. I drove here Monday because I've been having trouble with the cars air conditioner. I thought I had fixed it and wanted to take a short road trip to test it. If you stay in the Manor Inn everything you need is within walking distance..:))

Lost Maples State Natural Area covers 2,174.2 acres in Bandera and Real counties. It is north of Vanderpool on the Sabinal River. Purchased from private owners in 1973 and 1974, the site opened on Sept. 1, 1979. About 200,000 people visit the park each year.
Evidence shows that prehistoric people used this area at various times.
The Spanish began exploring and colonizing around here in the late 17th century.
Apache, Lipan Apache, and Comanche Indians ranged over the land. They posed a threat to settlement well into the 19th century.

This image was constructed from 22 vertical frames in 4 rows (only 3 rows were really required) taken with my X-T5 and 23mm f/2 lens @ f/2, 10 sec, ISO 8000, and stitched in PTGui Pro.
Totality darted in and out of visibility in cloudy Texas
Nail biter cleared clouded cleared again then settled on cloudy with the eclipse just visible through the clouds and even then it darted in and out of the dense clouds during totality.
Captured with a Questar telescope and a Nikon Z7II. Quite a bit of AI processing has been used to coax as much as possible from this cloudy image. Kept my laptop thinking for a while and updated.
This is the first time I have had to photograph an eclipse degraded by thick clouds and just visible. It is a bit like looking through frosted glass, but the one very surprising result for me is at the bottom of the Sun with the prominences and how the brilliant red lit up the obsuring cloud red- this I have not seen before. This photo to my eye is close to what I saw with the brilliant red prominences and the cloud squelched corona.
This crescent represents the state of Texas well. It has nice rust and brown hues on its dorsal side.

Back in early February I made a trip to south Texas to look for reptiles and birds for about 4 days.
The first snake I was able turn up was this Texas Patchnosed snake that I found under an old piece of plastic at a dump spot in the texas scrub. I was very glad to turn up this lifer.
These snakes get there name from the large scale on their nose that looks like a patch. These snakes specialize in digging up the eggs of other reptiles and this enlarged scale aids them in digging.

Tornado touches down in a field near Morton, Texas May 23, 2022
Never seen one before but there were sure a lot of them in south Texas! Usually perches with wings opened flat. Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Center, Texas.
Beautiful structure with this tornado producing supercell I intercepted yesterday afternoon outside of Odell, Texas. This storm had one of the most pronounced radar hooks I have seen in a while. This is a 12 image panoramic using the new pano merge feature in Adobe Lightroom, finished in Photoshop CC. Hope you enjoy.
With a brand new baby we didn't get out much, but we did get out for a bite one evening. This looks like a hole in the wall kind of place, but was some of the best fish and chips I ever ate.

Lake that is not too far off of Interstate 40 in northern Texas ... a pretty spot that Ms. Krach and I stopped off to spend a morning eating a quick breakfast and to take in some nature while on our way to New Mexico. Well worth the small travel off the highway to take a break and get away from it all.
Just looking at this scene I can hear all the birds, the breeze and the smell of some camp fires off in the distance filtering in to where we were along this lake.
