The trail we used to descend Grandeur Peak is faintly visible ahead. It makes a 'Z' shaped switchback before rapidly descending to the right into Millcreek Canyon.
A curvy mountain road cutting through the scenery. It was kind of scary. Most of the road didn't have a guardrail. This was taken around Colorado Springs.

Georgia Northeastern Railroad GP10 #7562 starts up the switchback near Tate, GA with three loaded marble hoppers on a dreary winter afternoon.
Exploring waterfalls is quite the challenge. I have never been to this location before and I didn't really expect to capture a shot I would like.
A lot of the existing shots of this waterfall didn't really impress me. So my expectations of getting a nice photograph were low.
But sometimes the scenes are just too good and if the light is right, a portfolio worthy shot can be made.

My mind wanders through memories of past adventures much like the San Juan River meanders back and forth through the Gooseneck Canyon system that it created over millennia.
This photo was taken by an Asahi Pentax 6 X 7 medium format film camera and Super-Takumar/6X7 1:2.4/105mm lens with a Zenza Bronica 67mm SY44•2C(Y1) filter using Kodak 400TX film, the negative scanned by an Epson Perfection V600 and digitally rendered with Photoshop.
Canyonlands, Utah
The Shafer Trail connects the Island in the Sky portion of Canyonlands with the park’s lower reaches. It is a delicate business getting up and down, involving many switchbacks and hairpin turns, but the ride is totally exhilarating.
I took a day off to go for a road trip in the Swiss Alps and nearby Südtirol in Italy. I drove over the Passo dello Stelvio (Stelvio Pass) from the South Tyrol side. A very windy road with countless switchbacks leads up to the mountain pass, located in northern Italy bordering Switzerland at an elevation of 2,757 m (9,045 ft) above sea level. I went to the Tibet Hütte for a coffee break, naturally wearing a mask. This fisheye shot through the window of the Tibet Hütte depicts the scale of the mountain pass.
I processed a balanced, a paintery, and a photographic HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, carefully adjusted the color balance and curves, and desaturated the image. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

These are a few of the switchbacks. If you go to Muley Point (which I highly recommend) and you want to see Valley of the Gods, you will drive this road.
I drove it many years ago before I even knew it's name. You will enjoy it if you do it for the outstanding views.

I shot this from Imogene Pass Road. This pass road starts in Telluride. You actually start out driving on roads behind houses of the town. Imogene Pass is not a road for beginners.
In this picture you can Bridal Veil falls. In the left center near the red spot is Ingram Falls. Right below the top Ingram Fall, you will see the start of Black Bear Pass Road, and you can see the switchbacks down the mountain. Black Bear is another dangerous road, and should only be done by very experienced drivers. Two people went over the side this year in a jeep, survived, but most don't.
This one of the classic views of Telluride. Hope you enjoy it and hope you understand the warnings about these roads.

The ascent to the watershed Tro La pass, with an altitude of 4864 m, northeast of Derge (the Derge county capital), is precipitous and switchback, gradually rising above the tree line into a world of jagged snow mountains. There are magnificent views of the Dri chu འབྲི་ཆུ་ (Yangtze) gorge to the southwest. On the far side of Tro La, the landscape is totally different, the enclosed forested valleys giving way to rugged open grassland. The crossroads town of Manigango is located in the grassland, 110 km from Derge, and 41 km from Tro La pass.
The dark jagged line of peaks and spires on the right is the Inconsolable Range, while on the left Mount Goode is surrounded by snow fields. Bishop Lake and Saddlerock Lake welcome with lush colors along their shores.
The panorama was taken from the top of the switchbacks. My own shadow is visible far below on this steep part of the trail.

Having safely descended the treacherous grade off Millstone Hill via the switchback Vermont Rail System's Washington County Railroad crew is headed west at MP 8.1 on the Montpelier and Barre Division. They are crossing South Main Street (VT Route 14) wirh seven loads of granite armor rock from the Northeast Materials quarry trailing green GMRC 804 (a GP9r blt. Oct. 1955 as NW 13) and red VTR 206 (a GP38-3 206 blt. Oct. 1969 as SOU 2718 and originally a high nosed straight GP38). At the small yard in downtown Barre they will pick up more loads then head into Montpelier where the whole string will temporarily be left while they run light down to Montpelier Junction to pull empties from the NECR interchange.
This is the historic Barre Railroad mainline opened in 1888 as the famed 'Sky Route' funded by local interests to reach the quarries. Here is a great historic article from 1889 about this railroad:

After arriving in Tate, the Job 103 crew swapped over to 3804 to bring some empties & loads down the Georgia Marble Company branch. Another dumb luck moment where I’ve lucked into a move down the switchback. This time, I was even more lucky with them having to double the hill in coming both up & down. 3-6-23

Many of the trekkers heading directly from Kamikochi to Yari Hut (on the left, and below the summit, of Mt Yari) end up dragging their feet somewhere along the way here, some getting frazzled and gasping. They don't know a huge reward awaits later!

This was a pleasant 17 mile trail. From this vantage, you can see the switchbacks coming up. Then the trail follows the edge of the mountain into the distance.

We took a trip to the top of Cottonwood Pass last night. The night sky was as clear and bright as I have even seen. We weren't too sure of the ground/snow bank we were standing on, but faint heart...
Ken expertly drove around the switchback without using breaks to create this cool light trail.
An eastbound Bly Turn shoves the first half of its train into the East Switchback. The last day of regular road operation on OC&E was quite spectacular. There were a healthy number of fans in attendance to document the final log train into town.
