Sutton Scarsdale Hall sits about a mile West of the M1 motorway, just North of J29, from where it looks northeast, across the valley, towards Bolsover Castle. The Hall’s history and how it came to be an empty shell are far too complex to summarise. Rather, just Google it. It makes for some fascinating reading!
The whole line have had their old ticket offices removed for reasons unknown. Normally they either sell them off or let them rot but can't make a penny if they just demolish them all.
Discovered in 1939, the age, size and completeness of the Sutton Hoo site in Suffolk made it one of the most remarkable finds in England.
Its most dazzling artefact, the helmet, gives us a priceless insight into England in the seventh century, shedding light on ship burials, weaponry and even moustache fashions of the day.
Probably belonging to King Raedwald of East Anglia, the Sutton Hoo helmet is one of only four of its kind ever to have been found in England.
Sutton Hoo is the sight of an Anglo Saxon burial ground. One of the burial mounds contained a ship with possibly Raedwald Ruler of the East Angles.

"The Parish of Sutton-in-Ashfield lies to the extreme west of Nottinghamshire, on the most elevated portion of the county, about 600 feet above the level of the sea, a little to the east of the rich valley of Erewash. It is in the Broxtow Hundred of North Notts., 3 ½ miles south-west from Mansfield, 14 miles from Nottingham and 140 from London, on the Midland and Great Northern Railways.
To distinguish it from the numerous other Suttons in the Kingdom (about 70 in all), it has the addition of Ashfield, from the great number of ash trees which grew here, when this formed a part of the famous Forest of Sherwood."
[From History of Sutton-in-Ashfield, published by L. Lindley, 1907)

I think this is an image of Sutton cottage hospital from 1902 to 1930. For a few years before 1902 there was a cottage hospital with six beds on Bushey Road, from 1930 a larger hospital that grew to over 200 beds was built elsewhere. For more history, see:-
