Tues 5 Feb 2013: UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) Singapore held a seminar to showcase business and cooperation opportunities for UK and Singapore companies in the Smart Cities and Sustainable Urban Solutions space in key emerging markets, including China and Burma.
In 2010, Living Earth Foundation launched the pan African Waste to Wealth programme. The project responds to specific challenges faced by poor people living in urban slums in Africa.
The programme encourages all sectors of society to develop collaborative solutions to tackle the challenges of waste management. We support entrepreneurs, micro enterprises, social ventures and community groups to generate an income through waste recycling, and to develop public private partnerships with local government to improve waste collection and waste management in poor slum areas.
Living Earth’s Waste to Wealth programme is funded by the European Union, the UK Government’s Department for International Development and Comic Relief, and is currently active in Cameroon, Nigeria, Uganda and Sierra Leone.

Baby elephant at the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage. Founded by the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, the elephant orphanage rescues and rehabilitates abandoned baby elephants before reintegrating them back into the wild herds of Tsavo.

Rweru Green Village was built with support from the United Nations Development Programme. Greening of the village through tree planting, water tanks, cows and cow sheds is being done thanks to an investment from Rwanda's Green Fund.

Have you seen Comet Neowise yet? Visiting us after 6800 years in space its not going to be visible for another 6800 years or so,
It is hard to imagine what was happening in 4800BC when the comet came to see us previously. The construction of a stone circle similar to Stonehenge, Nabta Playa was finishing in Egypt just about to catch a glimpse of a wonderous comet, the first pyramid of Djoser was completed, Malta caves were already constructed. And here its is visiting us again. A very rare treat indeed!

The plains south of Marsabit are laced with sand rivers that could be tapped for very significant water storage. Coarse sand like this found in a sand river between Logologo and Marsabit is ideal for sub-surface water storage.
