Living Earth Foundation worked in Sakhalin Island, Russia from 2005-2010. Sakhalin Island is the site of the world’s largest Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) processing plants. Offshore oil and gas reserves have been developed by a number of multinationals in the sector, including Shell, Gazprom, Sakhalin Energy International Corporation (SEIC) and BP. These developments are significantly affecting local populations of Sakhalin; environmentally, socially and economically. Living Earth has played an integral role in addressing these effects with its partners.

Tassa-Ouirgane village (in the Asni Commune, Al Haouz Province) is emblematic of the range of hardships and opportunities that exist in rural Morocco. Since January 2012, in small and large groups facilitated by the High Atlas Foundation’s project team, the villagers have been discussing their situation and potential development projects that will enable them to achieve their desired future. During the community meetings, the members can express their interest and need in any project area they feel important, and narrow down their project choices and options as they consider technical, financial and other factors that impact long-term sustainability.
HAF has already undertaken fruit tree planting with this community and now seeks to implement a women's cooperative.
Through a Green Fund investment, each Rweru Green Village household receives a pregnant cow. The cow provides milk for the family and the manure will be used to power biogas systems being installed in August 2016.

Studies have shown that climate change will cause a shift of climatic zones in the ecosystems of Altai-Sayan, resulting in the migration of animals and plants. In response, a buffer zone of about 600,000 hectares of protected forests has been created between the Western and Eastern part of the region to protect the migration routes of globally threatened species, such as the snow leopard, lynx, European red deer, elk, argali, and more.
