Another successful Back-to-School Brigade event is in the books! On Sunday, August 8th, we served 150 military children at our Everett, WA field office. It was a beautiful day, and the families had a great time! The children were excited to see Freddy Funko (Funko’s mascot), and to pick out their favorite backpack. Thank you to our amazing volunteers and sponsors, including Funko, All State – Everett Branch, Navy Federal Credit Union - Marysville Branch, Boeing, and Dollar Tree. and assistance to refugees through social
programming, sponsorship and raising
awareness of refugee rights. The organization
runs the popular “Twinning Program” that
matches newly arrived refugeed women with
women living in Montreal. Through regular
meetings and group activities, the “twins”
create bonds of friendship and solidarity.
The program helps to reduce isolation and

The Supporting People Service Users' artworks will be displayed in five libraries around the Borough until 14 May.

As plans for the City Life eviction blockade took shape yesterday, many political leaders began calling Fannie Mae to urge that giant government-supported bank to halt the eviction of Christina Soares at 32 Oakwood. The offices of Mayor Walsh, Congressman Capuano, AG Healey and Sen. Warren all made calls. These calls continued this morning as people mobilized at 10 am in front of 32 Oakwood. Nevertheless, protesters continued to get the message that Fannie Mae was continuing the eviction.
By 11 am 75-100 people had assembled, including many City Life members, but also representatives from Codman Sq. NDC, Right to the City, the Fight for 15 campaign, Harvard Legal Aid, Greater Boston Legal Services, the Black Economic Justice Inst., and Councilor Yancey himself. The group protested for 3 hours, chanting and hearing impassioned speeches.
At 1 pm the news came that Fannie Mae had decided not to evict and to review COHIF’s latest offer. That offer (290K) is much less than the very high amount Fannie wants (410K) but slightly more than Zillow says it’s worth (287K) and apparently much more than the outstanding loan balance (235K – what Fannie Mae took it back for at auction).
The crowd left chanting “we’ll be back” to 32 Oakwood if need be, or to defend any of the several other Fannie-Freddie fighters facing imminent eviction.

In support of The Rotary Club of Richmond, several businesses and organizations sponsored a beautiful tree for Christmas, as part of the City of Richmond's Winter Wonderland.
The Wilson School of Design was thrilled to be able to support this worthy cause. The 'elves' (students and faculty) from the Product Design program took on the challenge of decorating our tree with something unique and memorable.
They did just that! They designed a KPU-themed 'hoodie' for their tree and custom-designed and produced a very original product. To complete the tree, the team incorporated a variety of items used as decorations, that have been innovative products designed over the years. This certainly was what we would call, "the best-dressed tree" on the block!
