I initially used Nikon ViewNXi to export a TIFF image with minimal processing of only a landscape setting and white balance. I then worked with DxO PhotoLab 3 to finish up post-processing by making adjustments to saturation, brightness and contrast.

One of the more unusual sea stacks to have survived north of Tongaporutu. It remains relatively unchanged since i was here about 18months ago.
Thats Mount Taranaki to the right in the distance.
No doubt the locals will have a name for this rock but haven't had the chance to ask one...

This is a beautiful view of Sighnaghi, a picturesque hilltop town in Georgia’s Kakheti region, also known as the City of Love. In the background rises the St. Stephen Church Tower, a striking landmark that has stood above the rooftops for centuries. From the balcony of Abramichi Guest House, an enchanting scene unfolds. As the sun slowly sinks behind the rolling hills of Sighnaghi, the clouds turn soft shades of pink and gold – as if the sky itself pauses to breathe. The church of St. Stephen stands tall and silent, a timeless witness to history, prayer, and the lives of generations past. Perched high on a hill, Sighnaghi offers sweeping views over the Alazani Valley, with the majestic Caucasus Mountains on the horizon. The town is surrounded by four kilometers of defensive walls with 23 watchtowers, built in the 18th century to protect against invasions. The tower of St. Stephen served not only as a religious site but also as a watchtower, keeping a vigilant eye over the valley. With a glass of local Kakhetian wine in hand, we savor the serene silence. Below us, the valley is bathed in a warm evening glow, while the sky gradually darkens and the first stars begin to appear. It is one of those moments when time seems to stand still – only the peace, the view, and the soft breeze whispering through the trees remain. When night falls, the sky turns into a sea of stars, bright and untouched, far away from the glow of city lights. Sighnaghi breathes an almost timeless charm – a place where history, nature, and the simple pleasure of a glass of wine come together as one harmonious whole.
High above the Alazani Valley lies Sighnaghi, a charming hilltop town in Georgia’s Kakheti region, known as the City of Love. From the balcony of Abramichi Guest House, the view unfolds like a painting – golden evening light, the historic St. Stephen Church Tower rising above the rooftops, and the distant Caucasus Mountains. As the sun sets, silence settles over the valley, the sky darkens, and countless stars appear. It’s a place where history, nature, and the simple joy of a glass of Kakhetian wine blend into perfect harmony.

A view looking to the northwest at Sunset Point in Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. The sun had almost completely dropped behind the distant horizon except for a portion of the skies brighten up by its light. Most of the rest of this national park setting was in early twilight and quickly getting darker. My thinking during the time prior was to meter this image by adjusting the shutter speed such that I wouldn't blow any highlights present in the image. I knew that I would later be able to pull out any of the shadowed areas later in post-production. As I looked at the image in DxO PhotoLab 3 that I decided to work with the NEF image first in Aurora HDR Pro. I could make an HDR image from that single NEF one and work with an exported TIFF in DxO PhotoLab 3. I found that HDR software was better able to work with the shadowed areas and keep the highlights as captured. I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 3 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

This photo, 'Sunset over the Mediterranean', was taken one day after the end of the Corona curfew in Israel and people were allowed to reach the beaches again
Another quick business trip to Clive and a rain storm was just subsiding with the sun peaking thru under the cloud layer getting close to sunset so its a race up the hill. Some of the best light is just after a period of rain...

Olmsted Point in Yosemite National Park is one of those "pull over right now" overlooks that delivers a completely different perspective on Yosemite's iconic granite wonders 🌄✨
Perched at about 8,400 feet along Tioga Road (Hwy 120), this high-country vista point offers sweeping panoramic views south into Tenaya Canyon. The star? The backside (northeast face) of Half Dome rising dramatically in the distance—less familiar than the classic Tunnel View angle but equally stunning, especially with its sheer scale against the surrounding domes. To the east, Tenaya Lake sparkles like a turquoise jewel amid the subalpine landscape, flanked by Clouds Rest, Cathedral Peak, and a sea of glaciated granite domes and peaks.
Named after landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted (and his son), who helped shape Yosemite's early preservation, the spot features a large parking area with accessible viewing, interpretive signs, and a tactile bronze model of the valley for all visitors. For the best experience, take the short, hilly 0.25-mile (one-way) paved trail out onto the point itself—it's easy but rewarding, passing glacial erratics (huge boulders dropped by ancient ice sheets) and opening up even wider vistas.
Sunset here is legendary: the warm light bathes Half Dome in alpenglow while the high-elevation air adds crisp clarity. It's wheelchair-accessible from the main lot, making it one of Yosemite's most effortless epic views. Tioga Road is seasonal (typically late May to October), so plan accordingly—summer crowds peak midday, but early morning or late afternoon offers softer light and fewer people.
Pro tip: Bring binoculars to spot climbers on Half Dome's cables (when up), and pair it with a stop at nearby Tenaya Lake for a full high-country loop. This overlook captures Yosemite's raw, high Sierra beauty in one breathtaking sweep!

Taking in Salzburg's cityscape from the Müllnersteg, a pedestrian bridge over the Salzach River, is a treat, especially in the late afternoon when the sun casts a warm glow over the city. This bridge is always bustling with pedestrians, cyclists, and tourists, making it a lively spot to soak in the views. One of the standout features of Salzburg's skyline is the impressive Hohensalzburg Fortress (Festung Hohensalzburg). Perched high on the Festungsberg hill, it dominates the city's landscape. From the Müllnersteg, you get a front-row seat to its commanding presence over Salzburg. This view provides a fantastic look at the historic architecture of Salzburg's Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You'll spot those iconic rooftops and the charming facades of centuries-old buildings. Keep an eye out for landmarks like the Salzburg Cathedral with its distinct green dome. The cityscape is punctuated by several church spires, adding to its delightful and picturesque character. These spires belong to notable churches like St. Peter's Abbey, the Franciscan Church, and the Collegiate Church – Müllnersteg, Salzburg, Austria.
