A view looking to the northwest at Sunset Point in Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. The sun had almost completely dropped behind the distant horizon except for a portion of the skies brighten up by its light. Most of the rest of this national park setting was in early twilight and quickly getting darker. My thinking during the time prior was to meter this image by adjusting the shutter speed such that I wouldn't blow any highlights present in the image. I knew that I would later be able to pull out any of the shadowed areas later in post-production. As I looked at the image in DxO PhotoLab 3 that I decided to work with the NEF image first in Aurora HDR Pro. I could make an HDR image from that single NEF one and work with an exported TIFF in DxO PhotoLab 3. I found that HDR software was better able to work with the shadowed areas and keep the highlights as captured. I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 3 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

Looking west at Cortland, Illinois from Pritchard Road just outside of town in Maple Park.
Have a wonderful week ahead everyone :-)
I was on my balcony during one of the last good sunsets in my area this summer 2025. I watched thick clouds gather as the rainy season approached, and the sky slowly lit up in solid shades of red and orange. The buildings and trees made simple silhouettes against the fading light, and even the power lines added a hint of everyday city life to the view.
Nature meets urban details. The vibrant sky, mixed with the presence of familiar city elements like trees, buildings, and power lines, makes this shot a real marker of summer’s end.
I captured this image with my iPhone camera while the LiveView display on my Nikon D850 SLR camera was on. A picture of a picture, so to speak.
Taking in Salzburg's cityscape from the Müllnersteg, a pedestrian bridge over the Salzach River, is a treat, especially in the late afternoon when the sun casts a warm glow over the city. This bridge is always bustling with pedestrians, cyclists, and tourists, making it a lively spot to soak in the views. One of the standout features of Salzburg's skyline is the impressive Hohensalzburg Fortress (Festung Hohensalzburg). Perched high on the Festungsberg hill, it dominates the city's landscape. From the Müllnersteg, you get a front-row seat to its commanding presence over Salzburg. This view provides a fantastic look at the historic architecture of Salzburg's Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You'll spot those iconic rooftops and the charming facades of centuries-old buildings. Keep an eye out for landmarks like the Salzburg Cathedral with its distinct green dome. The cityscape is punctuated by several church spires, adding to its delightful and picturesque character. These spires belong to notable churches like St. Peter's Abbey, the Franciscan Church, and the Collegiate Church – Müllnersteg, Salzburg, Austria.

Beautiful viewpoint from the Narikala Fortress in Tbilisi, Georgia. The first prominent church seen is the Metekhi Virgin Mary Assumption Church and is one of the oldest and most iconic churches in Tbilisi, located on a cliff overlooking the Kura River. Built in the 13th century, it stands on the site of an earlier church from the 5th century. This church played an important role in the history of Georgia and offers a beautiful view of the old town. Surrounded by legends, including stories about the martyr St. Abo of Tbilisi, Metekhi Church is an important symbol of the Georgian Orthodox Church. The Sameba Cathedral, also known as the Holy Trinity Cathedral, is the largest church in Georgia and one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world. Situated on Elijah Hill, the cathedral dominates the landscape of Tbilisi. Construction began in 1995 and was completed in 2004, as a symbol of Georgian religious revival after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The cathedral, with its golden dome, incorporates both traditional and modern elements in its architecture, and serves as the spiritual center of the Georgian Orthodox Church.
The view from Narikala Fortress in Tbilisi is breathtaking. Situated on a hill in the Old Town, this fortress offers panoramic views of the entire city. You can see the winding Kura River flowing through Tbilisi and the mix of historical and modern architecture that makes the city so special. From this height, you can also see the Metekhi Church, the famous funicular and the imposing Sameba Cathedral, one of the largest Orthodox cathedrals in the world. The golden dome of the cathedral gleams in the sun, standing majestically against the Tbilisi skyline. The view is particularly beautiful at sunset, with the golden glow enveloping the city in a warm, magical atmosphere. This view, along with the rest of the Old Town, enhances the special charm of this historical site and offers an impressive panorama that shows both the modern and traditional sides of the city.

We’re on our way to Udabno, tucked between colorful hills and bathed in the warm light of the setting sun. Down in the valley, countless cows graze peacefully in the evening stillness. b>Udabno lies in eastern Georgia — a land of vast emptiness and rolling hills, near the border with Azerbaijan. It offers a striking contrast to the lush, mountainous regions found elsewhere in the country. Here, an expansive semi-desert landscape unfolds, with soft, undulating hills, dusty paths, and endless horizons. The earth glows in shades of yellow, red, and brown, especially when the sun hangs low in the sky, and the silence feels almost tangible. You’ll often have the entire landscape to yourself. The surroundings are perfect for quiet walks, picnics, or simply soaking in the silence. From time to time, shepherds pass by with their flocks, adding to the timeless, almost dreamlike atmosphere. Especially in the early morning or at sunset, when the light turns golden and the hills glow in warm tones, the area feels truly magical.
In the remote east of Georgia, near the border with Azerbaijan, lies the quiet village of Udabno, surrounded by sweeping semi-desert hills. The landscape here is vast and colorful, glowing in warm tones as the sun rises or sets. This tranquil setting offers a sense of solitude and timelessness, with shepherds occasionally passing by and cows grazing in the silence. It's an ideal place for peaceful walks and quiet reflection, where nature feels untouched and almost magical.
