On this wonderfully moody morning at Cannon Beach, the rock stands tall, its majestic form accentuated by the soft, muted light. A simple yet profound sight that invites contemplation and appreciation of nature's tranquil splendor.
Thanks so much for looking!

Tbilisi is the capital and largest city of Georgia, located in the east of the country on the banks of the Kura River. The city has a rich history dating back over 1,500 years and has been influenced by many cultures and civilizations over the centuries. Tbilisi was founded in the 5th century by the Georgian King Vakhtang I Gorgasali. According to legend, the king discovered the hot sulphur springs during a hunting trip and decided to build a city on that site. Over the centuries, Tbilisi has been influenced by various empires, including the Persians, Arabs, Mongols, Ottomans and Russians, resulting in a rich and diverse cultural mix. The old city center is a maze of narrow streets lined with traditional houses, balconies and churches, and is also home to the famous sulphur baths. Mtatsminda Park, located on top of Mtatsminda Mountain in Tbilisi, is a popular recreational area with a magnificent view of the capital of Georgia. The park is located at an altitude of approximately 770 meters and offers visitors a panoramic view of the city, the Mtkvari River and the surrounding hills. In addition to the breathtaking view, the park itself is filled with attractions, such as a Ferris wheel, playgrounds and several cafes. The Ferris wheel is a particular highlight; from the top you get a beautiful overview of the whole of Tbilisi, especially during sunset when the city lights up. The view from Mtatsminda Park also offers a unique perspective of iconic landmarks such as the Narikala Fortress, the narrow streets of the old town that stretch into the distance like a living painting and the Sameba Cathedral. Also known as the Holy Trinity Cathedral, this is the largest church in Georgia and one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world. Situated on Elijah Hill, the cathedral dominates the landscape of Tbilisi. Construction began in 1995 and was completed in 2004, as a symbol of Georgian religious revival after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The cathedral, with its golden dome, incorporates both traditional and modern elements in its architecture, and serves as the spiritual center of the Georgian Orthodox Church.

Sunset, also known as sundown, is the daily disappearance of the Sun below the horizon due to Earth's rotation. As viewed from everywhere on Earth (except the North and South poles), the equinox Sun sets due west at the moment of both the spring and autumn equinoxes. As viewed from the Northern Hemisphere, the Sun sets to the northwest (or not at all) in the spring and summer, and to the southwest in the autumn and winter; these seasons are reversed for the Southern Hemisphere.
The time of sunset is defined in astronomy as the moment when the upper limb of the Sun disappears below the horizon. Near the horizon, atmospheric refraction causes sunlight rays to be distorted to such an extent that geometrically the solar disk is already about one diameter below the horizon when a sunset is observed.
Sunset is distinct from twilight, which is divided into three stages. The first one is civil twilight, which begins once the Sun has disappeared below the horizon, and continues until it descends to 6 degrees below the horizon. The second phase is nautical twilight, between 6 and 12 degrees below the horizon. The third phase is astronomical twilight, which is the period when the Sun is between 12 and 18 degrees below the horizon. Dusk is at the very end of astronomical twilight, and is the darkest moment of twilight just before night. Finally, night occurs when the Sun reaches 18 degrees below the horizon and no longer illuminates the sky.
Locations further north than the Arctic Circle and further south than the Antarctic Circle experience no full sunset or sunrise on at least one day of the year, when the polar day or the polar night persists continuously for 24 hours.

A view looking to the northwest across the canyon and gorge with a setting sun at the Sunset View overlook in Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. Not wanting to blow any highlights from the sunlight, I metered the exposure and shutter speed to that. I chose to work with Aurora HDR Pro to better bring that complete setting in the image. I could make adjustments in the shadowed areas of the canyon and remove any color cast. I later exported a TIFF image to DxO PhotoLab 3 where I did some final adjustments with contrast, saturation and brightness for the final image.
An image capture looking to the northwest at Sunset View in Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. The sun was nearing the actual time for sunset. I exposed the image such that I would not blow any highlights and be able to keep those warm colors later in post-production when I knew that I could also work on those areas in shadows. But as I started looking at the image, I realized I had an opportunity to keep most of the landscape to my front and the national park in silhouette. That's what I wound up doing making minor adjustments in DxO PhotoLab 3 for the final image.

One of the more unusual sea stacks to have survived north of Tongaporutu. It remains relatively unchanged since i was here about 18months ago.
Thats Mount Taranaki to the right in the distance.
No doubt the locals will have a name for this rock but haven't had the chance to ask one...
I initially used Nikon ViewNXi to export a TIFF image with minimal processing of only a landscape setting and white balance. I then worked with DxO PhotoLab 3 to finish up post-processing by making adjustments to saturation, brightness and contrast.
Sunset time. This picture was taken from the window of a Glass Art Gallery which is located on a cliff overlooking the sea.
Another quick business trip to Clive and a rain storm was just subsiding with the sun peaking thru under the cloud layer getting close to sunset so its a race up the hill. Some of the best light is just after a period of rain...
Also experimenting with my copyright logo in the centre and trying to find the best opacity setting.

This is a beautiful view of Sighnaghi, a picturesque hilltop town in Georgia’s Kakheti region, also known as the City of Love. In the background rises the St. Stephen Church Tower, a striking landmark that has stood above the rooftops for centuries. From the balcony of Abramichi Guest House, an enchanting scene unfolds. As the sun slowly sinks behind the rolling hills of Sighnaghi, the clouds turn soft shades of pink and gold – as if the sky itself pauses to breathe. The church of St. Stephen stands tall and silent, a timeless witness to history, prayer, and the lives of generations past. Perched high on a hill, Sighnaghi offers sweeping views over the Alazani Valley, with the majestic Caucasus Mountains on the horizon. The town is surrounded by four kilometers of defensive walls with 23 watchtowers, built in the 18th century to protect against invasions. The tower of St. Stephen served not only as a religious site but also as a watchtower, keeping a vigilant eye over the valley. With a glass of local Kakhetian wine in hand, we savor the serene silence. Below us, the valley is bathed in a warm evening glow, while the sky gradually darkens and the first stars begin to appear. It is one of those moments when time seems to stand still – only the peace, the view, and the soft breeze whispering through the trees remain. When night falls, the sky turns into a sea of stars, bright and untouched, far away from the glow of city lights. Sighnaghi breathes an almost timeless charm – a place where history, nature, and the simple pleasure of a glass of wine come together as one harmonious whole.
High above the Alazani Valley lies Sighnaghi, a charming hilltop town in Georgia’s Kakheti region, known as the City of Love. From the balcony of Abramichi Guest House, the view unfolds like a painting – golden evening light, the historic St. Stephen Church Tower rising above the rooftops, and the distant Caucasus Mountains. As the sun sets, silence settles over the valley, the sky darkens, and countless stars appear. It’s a place where history, nature, and the simple joy of a glass of Kakhetian wine blend into perfect harmony.
