I love sunflowers! They're so bright and happy looking that I can't help smiling when I see one. I'd like to grow some, but I never think about it early enough in the year to get them planted in time.
4. Summer in 52 in 2018 Challenge
This is the 26th photo I've posted to this group, so I'm half way through the challenge at only just more than half way through the year! The only problem is that it gets more difficult now, as I've left the hard and the impossible ones till last!

An autumnal Porter's sunflower, blooming wild on...
DeKalb County (Stonecrest), Georgia, USA.
4 October 2024.
***************
▶ "Every year in September, an explosion of yellow flowers covers granite outcrops such as Arabia and Panola Mountains [and Stone Mountain]. These are Porter's sunflowers (Helianthus porteri), one of the autumn wonders in the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area.
Found in only 4 states —Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, and South Carolina— the flowers are most common on the granite outcrops of the Georgia Piedmont region, thriving in fragile solution pits — vernal pools, often dry and sandy — found on bare rock faces."

So excited to find this field of sunflowers! A few scratches and climb through the brambles was worth it.... sea of gold.....
I was amazed that almost every sunflower had a few honeybees on them collecting pollen and nectar. I'm glad that they didn't mind too much as I pushed the plants aside as I waded a little way into the field to find a good spot!
A single sunflower in a field of sunflowers.
