And so it begins, and begins quite beautifully, as a deck of altocumulus at 14,000 feet streams in from the northwest, making for a colorful sunset this evening. This is the leading edge of what is very likely to be a nasty winter storm for the midwest. Until all that icy fun on Sunday, we are blessed with a little color this evening. If I can get out of the driveway Sunday, you bet I'll be out playing in it.

Santiago, Chile must be one of the few places where you can climb a 1600m.a.s.m.l. hill placed in the middle of the capital, have a 7º Richter earthquake at the top and enjoy of a sunset reflected in the mountains in the the same evening haha. Greetings from Chile!

Sunset at one of my favourite lakes.
It looks like the chimney is on it's way out. I noticed this evening that it's got a chunk out of the top. Expect it will be pulled down anyday now (making way for a new housing development). See photo from last month in comments.

After more than four years I finally returned to Praia da Adraga. One of my favourite beaches. It has changed a lot. Where I was taking this photo there was roughly 1-2 meters more sand four years ago. In the background to the left you see rocks which weren't there back then. This offered a lot new compositional opportunities. But this beach doesn't only change over the years. It changes within days. I went there four times and some rocks were gone again since the tide had brought new sand.
Photographing this beach was a real joy, especially with such great light. I took around 50 photos until I got the perfect wave for the foreground. You really have to ram your tripod deep into the sand for such scenes where the water washes around it, then it will be rock solid and you can camp on such compositions until all fits together. I just had to be carefull and watch for the occasional rogue wave ;-)
Grand Canyon at sunset as seen from the Bright Angel Trail, Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona.
This image is part of my Grand Canyon set.
A few months ago I had the opportunity to hike the Grand Canyon from the North Rim to the South Rim (via the Bright Angel Trail), spend the night at the Maswik Lodge and then hike back to the North Rim (via the South Kaibab Trail) the following day.
This image was made near the end of the first day's hike, on the Bright Angel Trail, between Three-Mile House and the South Rim. The clouds had been building up all day and it was actually overcast most of the afternoon until right near sunset when the sun appeared below the cloud cover and lit up the canyon with these low-angle rays.
This image was made with a Nikon D40 and Nikkor 12-24mm.

I love silhouettes as they hide the full story which makes them interesting!
It also has amazing darkness and colours against the light which makes it mysterious and moody.
Enjoy your Monday or Sunday where ever you are.
Another gorgeous sunset tonight in the Stockholm area in Sweden, the 27th of july. Time 9:55 PM.
There have been many wonderful sunsets this summer and the reason must be the bad weather (!?) with cloudy skies in the evenings. Last summer was hot and we always had a clearblue sky.
This night was extremely beautiful with almost red sky & water and I didn´t do much about the photo here, just some cropping and contrast.
