Here is another update from my border collie Kodiak. In this image he is wearing his wide brimmed sun protection hat. This hat shades his ears and eyes the most, but not his nose. I need to go find a better hat before he is able to go for any daytime walks.
You can clearly see the surgical sutures in Kodiak's nose. The Discoid Lupus Erythematosus(DLE) is what caused him to lose skin pigment in his nose, eyes, and ears (which is why his nose is pink, and will be forever).
Lupus is an autoimmune disorder that causes the immune system to attack the body. In Kodiak's case DLE causes chronic sores and rashes on his skin which is exacerbated by sunlight exposure.

It's usually very hot and hard work, though we're forecast cloud for tomorrow so it might not be so bad. Nevertheless, Lucy has reminded me to take some sun protection just in case.
