Too much sun can create turbulence for the brain. So that everything spins and you think you're going crazy. Here it is called "having a sunstroke". And that's actually not funny – it can be dangerous. So it is a practical avoidance strategy to place something intertwined on your head ;-)

Zuviel Sonne kann das Hirn schon mal in Turbulenzen versetzen. So dass sich alles dreht und man glaubt, verrückt zu werden. Hier nennt man das "einen Sonnenstich haben". Und das ist eigentlich nicht lustig – sondern kann gefährlich werden. Da ist es doch eine praktische Vermeidungsstrategie, etwas Verflochtenes auf seinem Kopf zu platzieren ;-)

Ingredients: straw hat (it always hangs right next to the patio door and sometimes I put it on), red cardboard (to show the intensity of the sun's power and the shadow play), sunlight (we're very lucky here, the sun is shining and it's not raining)

Zutaten: Strohhut (der hängt immer direkt neben der Terrassentür und manchmal setze ich ihn auf), roter Karton (um die Intensität der Kraft der Sonne zu zeigen und das Schattenspiel), Sonnenlicht (wir haben hier großes Glück, die Sonne scheint und es regnet nicht)

Sumertime is Sunscreen-Time! Everyone should use some Sun Safety when the sun is out there. Also in little world the tiny little helpers enjoy the good weather. But look at that - this guy is enjoying it looking directly into the sunbeams. Let`s hope he did use the Sun Safety right behind him :)

If i could offer you one tip for the future...Sunscreen would be IT !

I am literally blind in sunlight without my shades! I have quite the collection and backup pairs in the car.

My favorite sun and beach hat. My mom gave me this hat many years ago and it’s still holding together strong.

For: « Smile on Saturday! ».

Theme : sun protection.

À l'origine, le panama se fabriquait exclusivement en feuilles de bombanaxa, mais cette matière fragile fut abandonnée avec la popularisation mondiale du chapeau.

La matière première utilisée est la feuille de Carludovica palmata, appelée paja toquilla, une espèce de palmiers poussant en Équateur. Les Équatoriens préfèrent parler de sombrero fino de paja toquilla plutôt que de panama. Après la récolte, les cœurs de palmes sont transportés à dos de mulets jusqu’aux villages, où la palme est divisée en fibres fines. Il existe deux traitements de la fibre : à Cuenca, la paille est bouillie pour éliminer la chlorophylle alors qu'à Montecristi, elle est séchée au soleil et blanchie à la fumée de soufre. Puis les artisans procèdent au tissage qui peut durer jusqu'à huit mois.

En 2009, l'Institut équatorien de la propriété intellectuelle reconnaît l'appellation d'origine contrôlée du panama. En 2012, l'Unesco l'inscrit au patrimoine culturel immatériel de l'humanité.

Well here we are in the South East of England and the sun has finally graced us with its presence...in a bit of an extreme fashion as is usual for the UK.

Also sending my thoughts and prayers to all the people who have suffered in the terrible floods in Europe.

Smile on Saturday: Sun Protection

Any resemblance to real events and cats is absolutely non-coincidental. I never took Pixie to the beach, but my beach bag has suffered the same fate several times (like all my bags).

I know I had posted a photo not too long ago of my Molly girl in my sunglasses but in honour of International Dog Day I had to share another one of her and of course, it plays along with this weeks Smile on Saturday theme: Sun Protection.

This Ducky is ready to hit the beach! Equipped with sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat, she's well protected from the Sun.

Her feathers provide her with a natural sunscreen: but we need to always use the kind that comes in a tube!
