Ashland, Oregon has so many kind and friendly faces.

Angela is one of these beautiful people.

She agreed immediately to participate in my photo project and did me the honour to pose for me.

Angela was truly easy to photograph, she was a natural. I liked her positive attitude and easy going way.

Her message was: "Kindness first! Also wear sunblock!"

On a beach in Gold Coast, Australia. I should have took their advice and asked them for some sunblock.

Life can be very trying when things you desperately need (such as sunblock or a camera) are placed out of arm's reach when you do not want to get off your sunchair. And you never want to get off your sunchair.

this was in a bunch of junk my parents had - early 1980s I think -

Noticed this obscure rock when walking around injidup beach. It was almost perfectly blocking out the sun. Made for a cool shot!

1) Yes, 70+. I'm fair skinned and a freak about sunscreen. I put it on my kids and they still tan. (But at least they don't burn...for the most part!)

2) As I'm taking this picture my son says, "You're taking a picture of sunscreen?" Um...yes. I've only been taking pictures of random items for almost a year now! You'd think he'd be used to it by now.

Concordia Language Village in Bemidji, MN - Summer 2005

Contrasted ad absurdum

An old favorite from 2002.

The white on his face is a natural sunblock (thanaka) used by many people in Myanmar to protect them from the brutal effect of the sun. Temperatures can easily be in the 40 degree range for much of the year.

......swimming, eating ice cream, staying up late, enjoying iced lemonade, sitting in the garden, wearing flip flops and shorts, looking at fireworks, village feasts, eating outside, walking round the city at night............and whatever you like doing in Summer.......

To enjoy the Summer better stay cool, wear a good sunblock and drink lots of fluids. Have a great Summer everyone :-)

After an unfortunate 2+ hour Kayak outing where I forgot to put sunblock on my legs, my Gustins became my Kayaking pants for the next few days.

Summer came early this week. It was up to 35 degrees celcius and a bright sunny day. In China, it is considered beautiful for women to have pale skin. They sometimes take extreme measures to avoid getting any suntan. This women is covered head to ankle even though it is extremely hot. It must be very uncomfortable to ride a bike wearing all this.

Keep out the lights with this so cute eye mask :) Very easy and fast to crochet! Great as last minute gifts to friends and loved ones!

You can crochet many of these in various colors and keep them simple amd plain or you can embroider any designs onto the eye patches like star, heart, smiley face, eyelashes, initials, numbers, etc. Obviously, I can't embroider very well and can only come up with these two simple outlines :(

Size will vary depending on the type of yarn used, the size of the crochet hook and your crocheting tension.

Enjoying a shady spot poolside at the Wynn. Interesting how my 69th day fell on 08/08/08. Do you know what 8 means in text language? What magical numbers! Plus I'm functioning on about a total of 8 hours sleep for the last three days.

The kitchen table is even more of a mess than usual, as I pack up photo gear and other items for a walk around an Audubon sanctuary. I bring sunblock, bug spray, tissues, and water.

Multiple Independently-targetable Reentry Vehicle (MIRV) thermonuclear warheads. If one of these is coming at you, "anybody not wearing 2 million sunblock is gonna have a real bad day". Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio. March 2010.

No matter how many times you tell them they are fair skinned and need to put on sun block the first time you are not there hounding them they don't put it on and then we spend the night comforting them when they are sore and don't feel well. I wonder if he will put it on next time I am not around to remind him.
