The female Baltimore Oriole is just a bit shyer than the male. However, this one in our backyard did pose nicely for me this week. I love that little song they sing before they show up. It’s a little melody that I added words to so it sounds like “ I’m such a pretty bird.” Happy Wing Wednesday!

Crocosmia Red Lucifer (don't you just love that name) more commonly known as Montbretia. I have always adored it's striking red colour against it's vivid green, long and blade like leaves. I never knew it was part of the Iris Family.

I grabbed the camera just as this little guy started looking over at my apartment. Pictured through a fly screen window, I think I got its undivided attention.

#204 - tag #4 - is Amigo. He is frequently seen on the Big Sur Coast, and is perhaps too friendly. One is cautioned to keep a safe distance from this bird to protect his safety.
We had such an amazing experience yesterday in Big Sur with 6 California Condors all in one place - many of them flying very low and impressing us with their amazing size. They were flying with Turkey Vultures, and the large size difference was very visible.
184/365: A day out to Elk Island with Monique and her husband who very kindly acted as chauffeur. We saw a bison strolling along the middle of the road...so exciting to see such an amazing creature. I did get some shots but they aren't amazing. May post one at some point but they are more record shots than anything.
We saw this Sikh temple on our way back though and liked the look of it against the sky...we had a fair bit of rain. Note the bird on top.

It has been pointed out that my dates do not correspond with the correct day of the 365. I didn't change my time/date on my camera as I just know I will forget to change it back when I get home. So I hope this is all acceptable for the 365 challenge. I am not always able to post on time so it's confusing. I am pretty sure I haven't missed a day out though.

It was such a privilege to spend a few mornings with these endangered birds of prey during our last trip to Florida. They feed almost exclusively on apple snails.

Zurzeit suchen die Uferschnepfen auch auf den überfluteten Feuchtwiesen nach Nahrung.
Sie stochern mit dem langen Schnabel im Boden, wo sie mit Hilfe ihrer drucksensiblen und flexiblen Schnabelspitze ihre Beute auch Unterwasser lokalisieren können.
Jetzt zur Brutzeit ernähren sie sich von Insekten, Spinnen, Krebstieren, Weichtieren, Larven und Würmern.
Hier hat sie vermutlich gerade eine fette Schnakenlarve erbeutet und verspeist.

Becky was such a trooper standing in the cold water. Thankfully her toes didn't fall off haha. I always appreciate a model who is up for slightly uncomfortable situations. I only ask if I think it'll be worth it. I think it was in this case :)

Such intricate design on the California Quail. They like to perch high in the garden to keep an eye on things.
Such a great companion on these cold days, Libby with her Mona Lisa smile. This was taken with another of my recently adapted rangefinder lenses, this one the Konica Hexanon 45mm f1.6. I'm having a blast with these old lenses, some of them really remarkable.

To think I was blessed with such beauty 2 days before the New Year, and got nothing of that caliber this year while in the same place... Yikes.
Such clever birds as are all the corvids but these really are a pretty little crow with their bright blue eyes .We tend to take them for granted !! This bird part of a small flock busily hunts the grass for insects
