Yesterday was such a glorious day with sunny skies and warm temperatures that gave us hope that spring is coming soon. It's amazing how a bit of sunshine can change the mood of the world around us. Lots of people were out walking and genuinely happy. Birds were active and we watched a Bald Eagle soar above us a few times amid the honking of swans and ducks below. In the bush, my eye was drawn to this one tree trunk that was ablaze with color from the sun. It made the peeling bark stand out with the backlighting. With a little luck we will see more sun than rain this spring.
They will see us waving from such great
Heights, 'come down now,' they'll say
But everything looks perfect from far away,
'come down now,' but we'll stay...
Such a beautiful night. A moment of reflection before sleep.

Can I just take a moment to tell you how sexy this outfit is, because it really is and with all the color options it was hard to decide! The awesome part is it is currently 60L so you don't have to, you can have it all!
after such good and exciting news earlier today, I decided to take my fur babies out for a walk myself.....

Such a nice surprise to see this honeybee enjoying a fresh Bottlebrush bloom. The new blooms were so vibrant and graceful. With the way the sun was shining through them. they reminded me of lanterns.
Happy Lunar New Year!

This was such a long zoom, it would have been nice to be able to come in a little closer to these Eagles.
They were so far off in the distance that with the naked eye, it was hard to say if they were even Bald Headed Eagles or not.
This couple sat face to face, perched in this rural area, on what appeared to be a bird house or possible even a feeder of sorts.

Pitt Polder Ecological Reserve was established to preserve a fragment of the rapidly disappearing Fraser Valley boglands.
Ecological reserves protect special natural ecosystems, and support research and education. They are not intended for outdoor recreation. However, this ecological reserve is open to the public for non-destructive activities like hiking, nature observation and photography.
Consumptive activities like hunting, fishing, camping, or foraging are prohibited. Motorized vehicles are not allowed.

The Pitt River in British Columbia, Canada is a large tributary of the Fraser River, entering it a few miles upstream from New Westminster and about 25 km ESE of Downtown Vancouver. The river, which begins in the Garibaldi Ranges of the Coast Mountains, is in two sections above and below Pitt Lake and flows on a generally southernly course. Pitt Lake and the lower Pitt River are tidal in nature as the Fraser's mouth is only a few miles downstream from their confluence.
The Pitt River drains into the northern end of Pitt Lake. The western shore of Pitt Lake are protected within Pinecone Burke Provincial Park, while most of the eastern shore are protected within Golden Ears Provincial Park. The southern end of Pitt Lake features an extensive marshland called Pitt Polder. While most of this marshland has since been drained for agricultural use, the northernmost portion is strictly protected in order to provide critical habitat for migratory birds.

This lovely rose puts on a wonderful display every summer in my garden. I don't know the name as it was already in the garden when I moved in.

Such a wonderful time spent on the beach and sea ... each wave series was a different potential painting on the camera sensor.
Its a testament to persistence. I live about 45 minutes from this viewpoint, Jonsrud Viewpoint, near Sandy Oregon. Because this is fairly close, and so cool looking, an image form here has been on my list for a long time. And I go, often. Every time a strikeout. This is the first image I have ever posted from here. I have been there about 6 times, and I finally walked away with an image I liked.
This is a tough spot to shoot. It has great fog in the valley in the morning, but sunrises back-lite Mt. Hood. You can shoot a sunset, but then you don't get the fog. You can see this in many of the mages people post from here. They have fog, and good color in the sky, and then they wash out Hood in the processing and it looks horrible. You just can't get it all when you shoot from here unless you let your tripod sit there all day and shoot both. However, then creeps in the third issue. Clouds. If you live in Portland you know, Hood is a cloud magnet. If you want a sunrise with clouds to catch the color, then you often (99.999 percent of the time) loose Hood in those clouds. If you see Hood, you usually have no clouds. To get hood with clouds around her but not obscuring her, you need patience, and tons of it.
So in this image, I opted for the fog. Clouds came in about 10 minutes after I shot this, but they swallowed Hood. Sigh. Not an easy place to shoot.
The last challenge, the right tripod location. You have to get here early to get the primo tripod spot. Here, I had to show up 1.5 hours before sunrise and wait there, to steak out my spot. When I walked away there was about 12 photographers there. I can't imagine how many there would be if the conditions were even more ideal.
So my hat is off to anyone who got the great trifecta- detail on Hood, colored clouds in the sky and fog in the valley. Its a near impossible feat.
