Lambs at Manor House Farm, Brighouse in West Yorkshire

(Brighouse Echo and Halifax Courier 1/6/2023)

There's such a satisfying feeling as a photographer, when you reach a location before sunrise, when everything is still dark and deep hues of blue and grey, and the first light of the sun begins to illuminate the world in front of your lens.

Standing in the depths of Zion Canyon on a blustery winter morning, my eyes tearing from the sub-freezing gusts, the anticipation is palpable. When the first hint of light starts to warm the Towers and Temple of the Virgin under a still deep blue sky, it is truly one of the Creator's great ceremonies.

Such a cool looking little sparrow!!

Źródliska Park - the oldest park in Łódź, founded in 1840, once called the Walking Garden.

It's been such a long time since we've had a genuine pea soup fog around here and on Sunday we were blanketed all day. I was finally persuaded to get my camera out of the bag after almost a year and it was the thick fog that did it.

I know many people like cemeteries for different reasons. I like them because they demonstrate an important and inevitable aspect of the life cycle. It's also because reading the inscriptions makes me wonder about what made up the life of the one who has shuffled off this mortal coil.

Graveyards are generally peaceful places and deliberately designed to be so. The fog seemed to emphasize that peace as well as a kind of timelessness, so there, in the quiet, I couldn't help but think while the people buried there may have finished with this life they are certainly busy in their next one--another part of the cycle.

Thus, the great hope: life goes on.

Such tiny little frogs - about 2cm long. As you can probably tell I did have to use a flash to get this one as they do like the dark.

"The artist is the confidant of nature, flowers carry on dialogues with him through the graceful bending of their stems and the harmoniously tinted nuances of their blossoms, Every flower has a cordial word which nature directs towards him."

Such is life

Feelin'

Beautiful life

I see it

I'm making changes now

Open up the door

And I will be here

I am here

Seems like I, been waiting

Held in tight

I'm aching

I'm seeing clearly now

Wipe away the tears

And I will be free

I am free

Seems like I been waiting

Held in tight

I'm aching

I'm seeing clearly now

Wipe away the tears

And I will be free

I am free

I feel

Feel the beauty inside

I see

World is turning outside

I'm here

Hear you calling my name

I'm free

I'm free!

Bienenfresser (merops apiaster) - bee-eater

Bee-eater

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bee-eater

The bee-eaters are a group of near passerine birds in the family Meropidae, containing three genera and twenty-seven species. Most species are found in Africa and Asia, with a few in southern Europe, Australia, and New Guinea. They are characterised by richly coloured plumage, slender bodies, and usually elongated central tail feathers. All have long down-turned bills and medium to long wings, which may be pointed or round. Male and female plumages are usually similar.

I am a relatively inexperienced bird photographer and am still getting used to the optics of a telephoto lens compared to a macro lens that I am much more used to. The photo was taken quite late in the afternoon and shot at 4000 ISO and f/7.1. I like the softness of the image.

Thank you for visiting. I appreciate the kind comments and faves very much.

We set out to try and find some picturesque ruins as our back drop for the Perseids meteor shower - which we did: Waverley Abbey didn't let us down in terms of its serenity and ruinedness - but then we did not manage to catch any of the meteors on "film", and to make it worse it started to overcloud quite rapidly...

Maybe we're a bit more lucky next time...

I posted a late afternoon image of Mt Shuksan reflected in Picture Lake recently. The morning light has such a different quality than the afternoon light.

The trees appear to be trying to block Mt. Shuksan! Happy Tree-mendous Tuesday!
