A local dock in Astoria, Oregon. Stunning green algae covered these pilings on high tide. I used a long exposure techinique to control the water movement.

With the lights of Shoreham-by-Sea's Adur Ferry Bridge reflecting on the surface of the river, this evening's Sunset was something of an unexpected sublime experience.

The rocks appear to be glowing from the slanting sunlight. This is a natural effect, not something I did in Photoshop. I made some PS Levels adjustments to increase the contrast a bit. I have seen this effect in other photographs of Bryce Canyon formations. Nikon F3, 200mm telephoto lens Kodacolor, scanned from print.

The forecast when we headed to the park was for mostly sunny skies, which we got. However, closer to the end of the trip I was pleasently rewarded with this amazing sunrise. I literally had to stand there and stare at it's beauty for close to a minute before I could get the camera out. It was one of my favorite sunrises to soak in and I feel thankful I was there to enjoy the moment. After shooting for about 25 min I was scared off by some grunting not too far off in the dense forest. Not sure if it was a bear or moose but I was in bear country and not to keen to hang out there by myself much longer! Fortunately I already knew I had the shot I truly wanted. Location is Bowman Lake, GNP. Thanks in advance for all comments.
“At the center of our being is a point of nothingness which is untouched by sin and by illusion, a point of pure truth, a point or spark which belongs entirely to God, which is never at our disposal, from which God disposes of our lives, which is inaccessible to the fantasies of our own mind or the brutalities of our own will. This little point of nothingness and of absolute poverty is the pure glory of God in us. It is so to speak His name written in us, as our poverty, as our indigence, as our dependence, as our sonship. It is like a pure diamond, blazing with the invisible light of heaven. It is in everybody, and if we could see it we would see these billions of points of light coming together in the face and blaze of a sun that would make all the darkness and cruelty of life vanish completely ... I have no program for this seeing. It is only given. But the gate of heaven is every- where.”

I was absolutely blown away by this display of light and fog. It was the perfect end to a weekend filled with the beauty of the Central Coast. 🌄✨
Like many sandpipers, the Semipalmated sandpiper forages primarily using tactile sensations from its bill. Most plovers, on the other hand, will forage side by side with their cousins but they do so primarily by sight. Next time you see a mixed flock of peeps and plovers along the shores, take the time to watch the difference in their hunting technique. I believe you’ll find the differences sublimely simple. #SemipalmatedSandpiper
