Went for a walk up Snowdon last Saturday , being March 1st , it was St David's day and happened to be my birthday .
The day looked like the high cloud could have cleared like the low cloud from the morning .
No such luck ! As I got higher the clouds descended again and the snow started falling . Fortunately the wind kept off , and having decent clothing on meant I didn't feel any cold.
The route I took up there was more or less along the miners track from the Pen-y-Pass , wondering off along the way to see other things.
It's the first time I've been up that route and forgot to take my crampons and walking sticks . I got half way up the zig zags almost to the last ridge before the summit , but decided to call it a day ,partly because viability was down to about 20 feet and partly because without the extra grip and stability , I would have made it up , but coming down would have been a big problem .
So came back down partly along the Pyg track , before wandering off along the north east side of the mountain . The rain had started by then so left the camera in the bag .
On a sub-zero morning I found this. I quickly pulled over and took this photo with the only camera I had. An instant camera with one shot left

After checking out the Arctic Run Model Railroad Show, I headed over toward the yard to see if anything was moving in CN land.
Here, CN 3006 and 2825 slowly pull a stack train on the siding at Stevens Point in bitterly cold temperatures and wind chills that were in the 20s to 30s below zero.
With a strong Sub-zero easterly wind blowing over the marshland just outside Hale village this hedgerow became a beautiful natural ice sculpture as cars drove through an area of flood water on the road.
A thermometer at Mary-Ann´s polarrigg in Longyearbyen Svalbard shows only sub zero temperatures. The climate is not really that cold though, thanks to the Gulf stream.
