:::::::::::: The ReMix (Mission Style)

This was a great Thrift Store Find. When we saw the piece it looked crappy. It had tons of scratchs, a "poop" colored finish and multicolored table tops.

There are many guidelines to select great peices. First we look for unique pieces. Take a look. Where else can you find a unique piece like this one. Second, the bones must be great. This piece is made of "Sold" wood; it's heavier that it appears in the pictures. Lastly, price is key. This piece cost 4 bucks.

The ReMix objective was to apply a new an refreshing finish to the peice. We accomplished the goal by sanding, sanding and more sanding.

Additionally, we were interested in including a mission style element to the table tops. We accomplished the using a masking technique.

It took lots of elbow grease and patience to complete the project. The outcome was more than we had hoped for.

The dome of the European Parliament is standing out behind the old clock of the Luxembourg Station. Opposition of styles, opposition of greys. Sometimes living in town is sad to my eyes.

The former Missouri Pacific Station, also known as Union Station, is the third station on the site. The first two burned. The second burned in 1920. The previous building, designed by Theodore C. Link, had prominent Renaissance Revival style and Gothic Revival style architectural components, including the clock tower and the grand entrance. These survived the fire and were incorporated by E. M. Tucker in the design of the new station, that was completed in 1921. Although called Union Station, Missouri Pacific was the only line to operate out of the building. The building was rehabilitated in 1992. In 2015, the building was an office complex, with a small area used by Amtrak. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places.

I was messing around a little in Lightroom and applied an old-style effect and some vignetting. I quite like the result.
