At the Ted Adnan's Basic Studio Lighting Workshop - November 2008

This was a set of photos I took of TBWNN (The Band With No Name). I wanted to have a play with off-camera flash so put one behind each of them and a continuous softbox in front, slightly to the right. I did enjoy the shoot!!

Day 23: my professor wanted me to redo my food assignment. This is what I came up with

This is the studio ring light I made. I needed a way to hold it up; the tripod mount didn't work all that well (if at all). I just used my DJ light stand since I wasn't using it for anything else.

Headshot of Kyndall taken during the "Two Light Workshop" at DsmPhotoCompany, April 6th, 2011.

Lighting: 86" (?) umbrella about 15 degrees camera left at f/4.5 lighting Kyndall and the bg and a gridded AB800 w/ CTO gel behind her head to give the glow.

PP:

-Nikon's Capture NX2 on RAW (.NEF) file

- changed white balance to 4200k. (I had camera set to flash WB and that turned out way too warm)

- guassian blur (60 px); blending mode "overlay" at opacity at 20 to add contrast and warmth.

-In Photoshop Elements 6.0 on jpg

- a subtle vignette and the drop shadow.

Self critique: I like the camera tilt and the lines of the bg and her hair line to draw attention to her eyes. But I had a problem with the WB and her skin tones. At first it was way too warm and it looked like I gave her a fake tan. I cooled the WB off quite a bit (42000k) but am not satisfied with the skin tone.

CC is most welcome.
