These are nasturtiums that I shot on a table top studio set up with multiple lighting. The main light was a monolight in a soft box. I metered the exposure using a hand held meter. Contax Aria, Zeiss 80-200mm F4 lens, Tiffen 81A filter, Tiffen +1 close up lens, Fuji Provia 100F slide film.

Fantastic studio session with Vanessa. We will be doing a location shoot next tuesday.
I know its said every time I work with her, but she remains a natural, and we work so well together.
These shots were supposed to be our "warm up" shots before heading outside on location, but her session was cut short and the location shooting was postponed until next week.
Every time I shoot her, she looks like a totally different person. Fantastic.

What Does The Smell Of New Studio Lights Smell Like?
Bloody awesome I would say.
Last year one of the schools I teach Photoshop, Lightroom and photography at asked for my advice on what they should get in the way of new studio lighting as their existing equipment was aging and needed replacement.
I gave them a shopping list that included 3 x Elinchrom 500, with some light modifiers that included med softboxes, umbrellas, and grids. With stands and remote triggers I also recommend Canon 600 speedites with remote controllers, collour correction and theatrical gels.
When all the gear arrived the other week they asked me out to help them set it up and give them a quick run down of what was what and I would hate to leave them in the lurch, so I jumped at the chance. hahahahahaha
It didnt take too long to get the stuff out and put it all together giving them some tips along the way.. I did learn one tip
Where you are setting these types of lights up dont look directly into one when it is on full power from only 30cm away and make it pop…

I decided to experiment with studio lighting a bit. Rather than deal with a human being, I thought Barbie would make a nice stand in. I'll do Ken next I guess. Strobist details: 1/8 power on a Canon 580EXII with a soft box simulating a 30" x 45" softbox. The center of the softbox is about eye level. Softbox is at 90 degrees. Otherwise known as split lighting.
A rough edit right after the photoshoot, it'snearly 4 am and I wanna go home already. Gonna be a long day auditioning (and therefore gotta pick and choose people) for a reality show in 6 hours lah.
I gotta raised my producer fees soon *grins*
