The Postcard
A postally unused postcard bearing no studio name. The card has a divided back.
There are no indications as to the identity of the nun, or the date and location of the photograph.
Many nuns fast to show devotion and solidarity with poor people who find it hard to afford food. They may also take vows of abstinence so that they do not feel tempted by certain foods. Some orders are committed to living a life without luxury, and thus choose to limit their diet even further.
Some orders also renounce chocolate, since it was once seen as a luxury and thus was prohibited for those who do not have money to spare.
The lady in the photograph evidently did not belong to one of the abstemious orders of nun.
Something about the lighting here makes it look like it was taken on an artificial set in a studio. There was a magical quality to the light at sunset in this area, check out the extreme colour banding in the sky (also, nikons kick ass in desert dusk/dawn conditions I've noticed)
