My studio has been in disarray for a few months now. I finally had time to redress most of my pullips and rearrange things so I could display the new additions I got over the holidays.

Our studio all "spic & span" for the annual Jersey City Studio Tour.
All of the artists in this studio studied with the same master painter, Frank Mason, who taught them their craft.
Sadly, as of February 2007, this work-space no longer exists. It has been demolished to make way for a mixed-use, highrise development.

Sol Gate Studios is also the home base of photographer Martin Backhauss. Born and raised in Germany he moved from Cologne/Germany to Oakland/California. He studied mediadesign, mediatechniques and multimediaproduction at the Bergische University of Wuppertal in Germany. He is constantly stimulating his creativity by using various lighting techniques, equipment and tools in Portrait, Fashion Product and Event Photography.
After the Shooting in the Daylight Studio or on location his passion continues in the digital darkroom of the studio to bring every images to life in a vivid, compelling and unique way.

my studio is still a construction side. Corona did a home office out of it and I have to find a solution to do it both in a small place.

Well, it took three months for these babies (the Behringer C2 matched-pair stereo condenser mike set) to come into stock, but I'm looking forward to testing them on some acoustic guitar recordings. I just have to decide which configuration to set them up with - X/Y, ORTF, NOS...

Though perhaps more my studio dance routine than Sam's. This shot is from one of five outfit changes or 'looks' that we shot during Sam's portfolio photoshoot earlier this year. We had a great time making the magic happen; in this case I've interpreted a swimwear shot as a dance routine. I like it, its like a little Tango. I can't even hear a little Astor Piazzolla playing in my head..
