This structure was tiewired together, whereas the newer structure at Governor's Beach was welded so the current passes through the entire structure very well

Decided to stick close to home for this week's theme. This is the John Barrow monument in Ulverston, in surprisingly beautiful weather :-)

Last time we were up there it was ticking over midnight on New Year's Eve/Day, there was more of a view this time!

Atomium, Brussels, Belgium

This unique structure is located near famous places of interest such as Brupark, Oceade, Mini-Europe and Brussels' Exhibition Park. Engineer André Waterkeyn designed this wonderful building for the 1958 World Exhibition.

It is a crystal molecule of iron atom that has been magnified billions of times. Nine massive irons spheres (representing the nine Belgian provinces) are held together by iron corridors.

The construction is 102m high and weighs no less than 2,400 tons.

You can take a lift, once the fastest in the world, to the top for a view of the city. There's also an exhibition of the Atomium in comics from 1958 to the present, and a film on the building's construction.

3D work that I did while at my previous job.

Built circa 1869, this Italianate-style three-bay mixed-use building stands at the corner of Greenup Street and Pleasant Street in Covington’s Eastside neighborhood. The building features a cornice with brackets and dentils, arched two-over-two double-hung windows on the second floor with decorative oversized hoods, a corner storefront with iron columns, presently home to a second location of the Mainstrasse-based Bean Haus bakery and coffee shop, and a Greek Revival-style door surround on the south (side) facade, with this facade having a more Greek Revival-style character. The building is a contributing structure in the Helentown Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

The skeleton structure (posts, beams and braces) is now complete. Now we have to put the roof on, and also build the stud-framework for three sides.

Upon entering Altun Ha the first feature that caught our eye was this impressive mound to the right, facing Plaza A, known as Structure A-6. Less is know about this mound that the other structures in Plaza A due to its great size and poor condition. It is thought that an earlier building may be hidden deep within what appears to be an earthen mound.

Archeologists believe that the entire mass may have been raised in just two stages, between 550 and 600 AD. Adjoining Structure A-6 is a smaller low mound known as A-7. It is in the northeast corner of the plaza.
