Did not realise that it was A Wolf Moon when I took this. Missed the sunset so went for a walk over it for the 1st time. The walk was a bore but when viewed from different angles it becomes interesting.
A public competition was held to decide on a new name for the bridge.
On the 23rd November 2008 it was announced that the winning entry was Kurilpa Bridge.
The name reflects the Australian Aboriginal word for the South Brisbane and West End area, and means "place for water rats".
The Kurilpa Bridge is a multiple-mast, cable-stay structure based on principles of tensegrity producing a synergy between balanced tension and compression components to create a light structure that is incredibly strong.
The bridge is 470m long with a main span of 120m and features two large viewing and relaxation platforms, two rest areas, and a continuous all-weather canopy for the entire length of the bridge. A canopy is supported by a secondary tensegrity structure. It is estimated that 550 tons of structural steel including 6.8 km of spiral strand cable are incorporated into the bridge.
The bridge is lit with a sophisticated LED lighting system which can be programmed to produce an array of different lighting effects. Depending on lighting configurations, 75%-100% of the power required is provided by solar energy.

Working on my portfolio site so I have been uploading some older pieces that may not have been documented properly.
These images are from the Magnetic Structure prints we (The Barbarian Group) showed at the McLeod Residence gallery in Seattle.
Using processing, thousands of magnetic particles flow through space, controlled by gravitational forces and perlin noise. I saved out the xyz positions and handed that data off to Andrew Bell who fed the data back into Maya and with some help from his friend Hai, was able to render out these very nice ambient occlusion images which really make the forms seem like cut paper.
PF Aljamal is a contemporary Arabic rounded typeface with a large set of variations, quite possibly the first of its kind. Its soft rounded terminals create a strong impression in heavy weights, whilst running text becomes subtle and friendly when set in small sizes. It is rather casual in nature and at the same time its strong geometric structure makes it robust and solid.

Westminster Station Metro London UK - Hopkins Architects - 1999
The old Westminster Underground Station served only the shallow District and Circle London Underground lines. The arrival of the much deeper Jubilee Line extension and the construction of Portcullis House, the new Parliamentary Building, above required the resolution of a much more complex interchange to cope with the depth and axes of the lines, the positioning of the support for Portcullis House and the proximity to Big Ben and the River Thames.
The District and Circle lines cut across the site at an angle of 45 degrees. This has a major influence on both the planning and the structure. All elements such as walls, escalators and ticket barriers follow either the diagonal grid of the railway or the orthogonal grid of the building above.
The Ticket Hall is entered from the colonnade of Portcullis House and the lower level District and Circle line platforms. Below lies 30 m deep escalator box to the Jubilee line platforms. Travelling down the smooth stainless steel escalators that thread through, the Piranesian effect is heightened by views of the rough concrete of the box wall, framed by a massive diagrid of beams and buttresses, which also form the foundations of Portcullis House.
4/16/22 - Crystal Lake, Illinois
No injuries were reported after an extra-alarm fire ripped through a large banquet and conference center in Crystal Lake early Saturday morning, leaving it a total loss.
The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded around 1:24 a.m. Saturday to an activated fire alarm at D’Andrea Banquets and Conference Center, 4419 Northwest Highway.
Two minutes later, a McHenry County sheriff’s deputy reported smoke showing from the building, according to Crystal Lake Fire Chief Paul DeRaedt.
The alarm was quickly upgraded to a working structure fire, which brought additional fire crews to the scene.
The first fire unit arrived on the scene at 1:32 a.m. and attempted to make entry into the building.
Firefighters had to back out due to an impending roof collapse, DeRaedt said. The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire.
Fire crews fought the fire from the exterior of the structure.
A request for mutual aid through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was initiated to the second alarm moments later.
DeRaedt said the fire had quickly spread through multiple areas within the wood-framed building.
Several ladder trucks with hose streams were established around the perimeter of the building to control the fire.
The fire was declared under control just before 5:15 a.m.
The building was not equipped with a fire sprinkler system, DeRaedt said. There were no injuries to any firefighters.
The building is considered a total loss and the building’s owners were at the scene and working with fire investigators.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Crystal Lake Fire Rescue investigators, other area fire investigators and Crystal Lake police investigators.
“Due to the collapse of portions of the roof, it will be some time before a cause can be determined,” DeRaedt said.

in his first solo exhibition in spain, artist petrit halilaj has transformed madrid’s palacio de cristal into a giant nest of massive flowers. the artist has connected the temporary installation with the city’s retiro park by opening windows, setting up structures, and placing feeding areas to attract the birds and other creatures inhabiting or passing through the park. ‘to a raven and the hurricanes which bring back smells of humans in love from unknown places’ is the first show inaugurated by the museo reina sofía since its closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which interrupted the montage of the exhibition.
Palacio de Cristal del Retiro
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Palacio de Cristal
The Palacio de Cristal ("Glass Palace") is a conservatory located in Madrid's Buen Retiro Park. It was built in 1887 on the occasion of the Exposition of the Philippines, held in the same year, then a Spanish colonial possession. The architect was Ricardo Velázquez Bosco.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parque_del_Buen_Retiro,_Madrid
The Palacio de Cristal, in the shape of a Greek cross, is made almost entirely of glass set in an iron framework on a brick base, which is decorated with ceramics. Its cupola makes the structure over 22 metres high. When it was erected, glass and iron construction on a large scale was already to be seen in Madrid at Delicias station (1880), the work of a French architect. However the curved architecture of the Palacio de Cristal is more comparable to the techniques pioneered by the British architects Joseph Paxton (who was responsible for London's Crystal Palace) and Decimus Burton (who was responsible for the Palm House at Kew Gardens).
The cast-iron frame was manufactured in Bilbao.[1] The structure was designed in a way that would allow it to be re-erected on another site (as happened to the equivalent building in London). However, the building has remained on the original site, next to a lake, and has been restored to its original appearance. It is no longer used as a greenhouse, and is currently used for art exhibits.[2]

The Crystal Palace belongs to the Reina Sofía Museum, and is one of its exposition centres together with Velázquez Palace

Title: Villa la Magia
Other title: Villa la Magia (Quarrata, Italy)
Creator: Buontalenti, Bernardo, 1536-1608
Creator role: Architect
Date: 16th-18th century
Current location: Quarrata, Pistoia, Tuscany, Italy
Description of work: This villa, formerly the fortified residence of the Panciatichi family, was bought by the grand-duke Francesco (de'Medici) in 1581, who commissioned Buontalenti to carry out rebuilding work. The property later passed into the hands of the Attavanti family, then to the Ricasoli and finally to the Amati-Cellesi Counts, the current owners. The villa's late-Renaissance features - a solid square building from which two corner towers protrude - are perfectly preserved. The facades, pierced by a regular series of windows with stone surrounds, recall the linear simplicity found on other designs by Buontalenti. The entrance to the park, which is full of oaks, Himalayan cedars, holm-oaks, plane trees, ginkgo biloba and black walnut trees, is through a gate with a masonrywork exedra adorned with pedimented columns. On the southern side of the villa is a Baroque-style garden, furnished with 17th-century works. Another attractive feature is the lake, added at a later stage both for ornamentation and for water storage purposes. Not sure what this shelter was built for but it seems close to the edge of this small lake!!! Perhaps it was for a boat???
The 'Caldea' at Escaldes Engordany, on the northeastern edge of Andorra la Vella. One of the most striking pieces of modern architecture I've ever seen.
It was built in 1994 and houses a complex of thermal baths and swimming pools, in addition to a shopping centre and restaurant, on three different levels. The central hub of the building is crowned by the gleaming 'silver' glazed spire, which contains a viewing gallery accessed by lift (unfortunately not operational by the time we got there).
The complex is currently in the process of being enlarged. We didn't get inside the main thermal pool rooms but at least got a taste of the ultra modern interiors from the areas still accessible.
Andorra la Vella, capital of the Principality of Andorra is a largely modern city surrounded by mountain ranges, reflected in the typography of it's street layout which is on several different levels. It was thus never a large city with so little room for expansion.
There are medieval monuments such as the ancient Casa de la Vall (the old council chamber) and the church of St Esteve (mostly rebuilt in more modern times) but the overall flavour is contemporary, owing to modern architecture and sculptures around the city.
Built in 1888 by Franklin W. Smith, this Moorish Revival and Spanish Baroque Revival-style structure, originally known as the Casa Monica Hotel, was sold to Henry Flagler, proprietor of the adjacent Hotel Alcazar and Ponce de Leon Hotel, less than a year after its completion. Flagler renamed the hotel the Cordova Hotel, and operated it in conjunction with his two other hotels. In 1902, a skybridge was built over Cordova Street from the adjacent Hotel Alcazar, linking the two structures, and the Cordova Hotel became known as the Hotel Alcazar Annex, with the two structures operating as a single hotel. In 1932, the adjacent Hotel Alcazar was closed, and, in 1945, the skybridge was demolished. In 1962, the hotel was purchased by St. John’s County for usage as the St. John’s County Courthouse, and the structure was renovated, covering the exterior in stucco, removing the famous Sun Parlor from the interior, and adding a large entrance with Corinthian columns and Spanish Revival-style elements to the Cordova Street facade, removing a four-story Moorish Revival-style porch structure in the process. During the renovation, in 1964, the lobby was utilized as a holding area for police dogs, which were subsequently utilized against Civil Rights demonstrators in the city. Following the completion of renovations in 1968, the building was utilized as the county courthouse until 1997, when the building was purchased by Richard Kessler, with the building being extensively renovated, opening once again as a luxury hotel in 1999. The hotel today is one of the most prestigious in the state of Florida, offering luxury accommodations. The building is a contributing structure in the St. Augustine Town Plan Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.
