Why do humans strive for perfection in an imperfect world? Today the Science Gallery at Trinity College Dublin opened the doors to its latest exhibition ‘PERFECTION’. Pictured is mediator Annie Regan looking at ‘GRAHAM’ by Australian artist Patricia Piccinini who is perfectly designed to withstand the impact force of a low speed crash (30km/h). PERFECTION looks at the wave of new science and technology which allows us to modify, hack and transform our lives in pursuit of our own personal perfection. By holding up a mirror to our own ideals, PERFECTION reflects on ever-changing ideas of scientific precision, body augmentation and perfect imperfection. PHOTO: Mark Stedman
With each and every post, we strive here at Creative Tempest to bring you only the best artists from around the world. From the state of California, this post features Jeff Newsom, a professional photographer. When Jeff does a photo shoot, no matter who it is or what it is, the best word to describe the images you see is real. When you look at a photo taken by Jeff Newsom, it’s not an organized, well thought out arrangement, it’s a glimpse into a tiny space of recent history; real. “I like it real, no professional models, no pre-scouted locations; simple, awkward, and awesome.” We’re happy to post such talent and vision here on Creative Tempest and hope you will share the same appreciation for his great artwork that we do. Striving for the famous waterfall.
Hiking along Eagle Creek Trail for 12.0 miles (19.312 km) in the rain, MaCanon Team reached Tunnel Falls. This hike is one of the most popular and magnificent trails in the Columbia River Gorge and I had desired to be there.
Dandelion
The botanical name of the dandelion plant is Taraxacum officinal. ”Taraxacum” is derived from a Greek word, which gives a meaning of altering or stirring up; this is in reference to the health properties of dandelion. The second word, “officinal”, used to be attached to the names of all herbs which were officially recognized.
FASCINATING FACTS:
- Dandelions were introduced from Europe
- in the evening the flowers close.
- young tender Dandelion leaves can be cooked or eaten raw as a salad green
- a Dandelion coffee is made from dried and ground roots; the roots can also be cooked and eaten
- dandelion wine is made from the flowers.
- I shot this almost lying down on the road on a heavy traffic with my shooting buddy as a human shield standing behind me.
...three weeks later
After several inches of snow that managed to stick when all of our mini snowfalls didn't, and freezing temperatures halting the emerging plants, we finally have flowers on the trees and the grey palette is beginning to lift.

Strivers' Row is three rows of townhouses in western Harlem, in the New York City borough of Manhattan on West 138th and West 139th between Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard and Frederick Douglass Boulevard. Originally called the "King Model Houses" after developer David King, they were designed for upper middle class whites and constructed between 1891 and 1893.[1] Different architects worked on each of the three rows, and they are collectively recognized as a gem of New York City architecture.[2]
The northern part of the 139th street group was completed by McKim, Mead and White in neo-Italian style. Designers who contributed to the complex on 138th street include James Lord Brown, Bruce Price, and Clarence S. Luce (Wikipedia)
Blocks of townhouses in West Harlem, originally built by the developer David E. King as the King Model Houses (1891-1893). See introductory comments here.
Seen here: the centerpiece set, occupying the entire block between 138th and 139th: a yellow-brick Renaissance dream by Bruce Price & Clarence S. Luce. As they completely wrap the interior carriageway, they really give a sense of how this typology was supposed to work. These could be seen as a last gasp of the sort of genteel, low-rise urbanism that was rapidly being replaced, city-wide, by increasingly bulky and barely-regulated mid-rise tenements. Alternatively, we might see them in parallel with contemporary "model tenements," and later "garden apartment" schemes, which both essentially sought to hybridize the tenement and the courtyard model.
We strive but as those dogs did for the bone;
They fought all day, and yet their gain was none.
Till came a kite while they were still so wroth
And bore the bone away between them both.

The oil and gas industries merged with ranching and the naval air station in Corpus Christi to create a need for a new school. The first building was opened in 1892 in Brighton, which later became Flour Bluff. After the 1916 hurricane destroyed part of the building, the school district decided to use student labor to rebuild the school farther inland. In 1937, the boom of oil and gas brought families to the Flour Bluff community. A brick building was constructed with the help of Humble Oil to house the increase of students. WWII brought the navy, and in 1941, a new 19-room junior and senior high school was built along with a vocational center for boys called the “laboratory of industry.” The center trained the students to work at the naval station training station plant.
After the war ended and a new need for financial independence arose, the residents of Flour Bluff voted to become an independent school. Superintendent Ernest J. Wranosky was responsible for expanding the boundaries and creating yearly projects which utilized local and student labor. His philosophy was to “advance and equalize, as far as possible, the opportunities of all students regardless of the mental abilities and social economic status.” He strived to set his education standards higher than state mandates. His curriculum included auto mechanics and building trades among others. Flour Bluff ISD took an annual field trip to the h.e. butt foundation camp which still occurs today. Military training and an evacuation plan for the district was created during the cold war. Since its creation 111 years ago, Flour Bluff ISD went above and beyond the standard of education and strove for excellence. (2012) (Marker No. 17332)

NCERT Textbooks and BJPs Agenda .
Sabse khatarnak hota hai hamare sapnon ka mar jana (Most dangerous of all is the death of our dreams) Avtar Singh Pash, killed by Khalistani terrorists in 1988. Pashs poem says, Police ki maar sabse khatarnak nahin hoti! Is this what we want to teach our children? BJP MP Ravishankar Prasad in Parliament, objecting to the inclusion of Pashs poem in a NCERT Hindi textbook. .
For Pash, it was only a constant striving to achieve the dreams of an egalitarian society that made life worth living to allow the fear of police brutality to silence us and kill those dreams; to make our peace with an unjust system, was more dangerous than death itself. For the communal fascist BJP, what could be a worse nightmare than the dreams that Pash died to keep alive the dreams that they are committed to kill? .
People/male and female,/blush when a cloth covering their shame/comes loose
When all the world is the eye of the lord,/onlooking everywhere, what can you/ cover and conceal? To the shameless girl/wearing the White Jasmine Lord's/light of morning,/you fool,/where's the need for cover and jewel? Akka Mahadevi, 12th century woman poet-saint .
For the BJP and ABVP, whose self-appointed task it is to ban women from wearing jeans, no wonder it is difficult to digest Akka Mahadevi, who scorned all social customs including even clothes. Rather than recognize the social radicalism of Akka Mahadevi, they would like to retrospectively clothe her defiant nakedness in saffron robes and turn her into a version of Sadhvi Rithambara! .
Unable to come up with any political initiatives and issues in the entire Monsoon session of Parliament, the BJP finally resorted to their pet staples of textbooks and Vande Mataram! Their objections to the NCERT textbooks expose their own politics all too well. .
.
At the sheer level of facts, the BJP proves to be false in Bipin Chandras textbook Modern India, for example, freedom fighters like Bipin Chandra Pal and Tilak have been described, not as terrorists, but as extremists in contrast to the moderates. .

In the history of India, the Gujarat riots and the the anti-Sikh riots of 1984, the Emergency, are enormous political events that a Class XII student will read about in newspapers and see on TV, even if they are wiped out of textbooks. He or she will encounter casteist language and gender injustice daily in the family, society, and street. The real question is: will schools and textbooks equip a Class XII student with the tools to form opinions about such events; will it teach him/her to internalize the values of defending democracy, resisting communalism, casteism, or gender injustice? Or will the textbook and teacher maintain silence on these issues, allowing a student on the threshold of adulthood to believe that what is learnt in the classroom has no value or applicability in real life? .
.
.
It is ridiculous to suggest that a student who reads Premchands Doodh ka Daam or a Dhoomils Mochi Ram or a story by Om Prakash Valmiki, is likely to pick up the habit of using casteist abuse against dalits! It is like saying that someone who reads Martin Luther Kings speeches will become racist! The works of these writers seethe with the pain and anger against caste abuse; a student who reads them is far more likely to realize how inhuman such practices are, and question them in daily life too. .
.
.
Naturally, the BJP would like that the RSS shakha and the Saraswati Shishu Mandir saffron laboratories should have a free hand in brainwashing young children; if the child learns to question and debate matters in the classroom, such habits might seep through in their daily social life too. And that habit of asking questions and rejecting socially-transmitted prejudices would pose a serious danger to the BJPs fascist project. .
