Güler Ates is best known for her photographs of mysterious figures in shimmering, diaphanous veils, drifting through opulent spaces. Here fabric takes a different form, drawn from donated and discarded children’s and baby clothes, too worn, damaged, or dirty to be used for charity. These castoff clothes offer a haunting reminder of children who have died—sometimes in their mothers’ arms—in journeys to escape conflict. Having suffered displacement from Eastern Turkey herself, the artist feels an acute empathy for refugees, and has created this work with the assistance of women from local refugee groups. In a new way, she returns to a question that emanates throughout her work: can we ever really know the person in front of us? Can we know their pain? Even when Jesus stood naked, stripped of his garments, who among the jeering crowds really knew what he felt?

Former Aurizon owned Clyde-GM/ EMD built G26C unit X53 now owned by CFCLA is slowly being stripped for parts at the Islington Workshops on 13th May 2018.
CFCLA purchased the unit from Aurizon after it suffered fire damage.

A US Navy Super DC3 (C47 Skymaster) Dakota crashed here on Saturday Nov 24, 1973. All the crew survived but the wreckage was abandoned.
The wreckage on a stark black lava beach has since become an iconic photographer's bucket list spot.
Its now a 4km walk across black lava sand to the site as car access has recently been forbidden.
This photo shows clearly how the metal frame of a Méhari is built up when the plastic panels are taken away.
The Méhari is a light weight compact SUV, and presented in May 1968. The body is made of ABS plastic.
Design contributions by Roland de la Poype (1920-2012).
Seen at the back yard of garage Carrosserie Les Berlioz.
602 cc 2 cylinder air-cooled boxer engine.
