A water strider stopped by today. Landed on wheelbarrow with water. Nice warm and sunny day, in the 70s (deg F). Raleigh, NC USA
A good end to a freezing cold, extremely windy and tiring day on Helvellyn. Icy, treacherous blasts of wind blew me over several times, gloves were whipped a hundred feet as I fumbled to change lenses, I was upperly cold and exhausted. However, the sun cleared as I reached my favorite vantage point on Dollywaggon Pike, and I was rewarded with some nice shots of Saint Sunday Crag and Grizedale beyond.

A pukeko, or Australasian Swamphen, strides across a grassy lawn in a public park. The bird is the size of a large chicken, but with legs maybe 20 centimetres or 8 inches long. Their body is blue and black with a white tuft at the tail, the beak is red and the legs a pale orange.
