Paddock area at Canterbury Park. This horse racing track is located in Shakopee, Minnesota, USA.
It runs a meet that consists of 69 racing days from early May to Labor Day, generally holding scheduled races Thursday through Sunday, with racing added on several holidays throughout the meet. The track itself features a one mile oval dirt track and a seven furlong turf course. Outside seating is available along with several indoor seating options. The track runs multiple food stands and bars throughout the building and simulcast betting is also offered.
Canterbury Park has hosted the Claiming Crown of horse racing for all but four years since its inception in 1999.

I noticed what I thought was some kind of water bug dancing and skipping across the pond surface at Mad River Fish Hatchery and took several photos of the unusual activity. When I saw them at home on my computer screen I was surprised to see not one but two water striders in the process of mating!! I looked up some info and was surprised once again at their mating habits.

Water strider sex begins unceremoniously: the male mounts the female without any courtship rituals or foreplay. She may resist but if she does, he starts to actively strum the water surface with his legs. Each vibration risks attracting the attention of a hungry predator, like a fish or backswimmer. And because the female is underneath, she will bear the brunt of any assault. By creating dangerous vibes, the male intimidates the female into submitting to his advances. Faint heart, it is said, never did win fair lady.

I needed a new pair of jeans. For the last year I've been getting cheap crap from Asda because I've been skint. It's worked out as a false economy though, as they last a couple of months then split.
I decided I was going to splash out on a pair of Levis or Wrangler. Where to get them from. I'm on holiday, I don't want to go into London. Bedford I suppose? Closer to home in Biggleswade in fact. Theresa showed me a great little shop called Strides, run by two guys called Pete & Rob. The service was second to none. The guy knew what he was talking about, and helped me get the right fit. You wouldn't get service like that in Top Shop or Burtons!!! Biggleswade
The forceful features and developed musculature of this figure are very striking. Traces of paint indicate that he had a moustache and wore a broad collar.
The statue has recently been identified as one probably from a tomb at the southern site of El Kab that may date from the early Fourth Dynasty. The style, which has no good parallels in Old Kingdom statues found at Saqqara and Giza, would seem to reflect a regional style.

This visit was a last minute decision on the way back from a trip further north. It's a stunning place. Exceedingly remote but definitely worth the visit. There are several arches (other than the one in the byre at Cairnhead) and walking to them all is a fairly serious undertaking, but the nearest one is only a couple of miles from the car-park at the end of the track.

Nags Head, North Carolina
The numerous sanderlings at Nags Head Beach were a fun thing to watch. They were fast, busy, and never tried to hide their attitudes. Their little bodies occasionally had a hard time fighting the gusts, and obviously made this one quite grumpy as it tried to get close to the water.
Stride it out young one! This well-developed juvenile Australian Brush (or Scrub) Turkey, Alectura lathami, is one of several at various stages of development that are using the garden as a thoroughfare to their more preferred bushland beyond right now.

Stride Rite Shoes at the Temecula Promenade, I recall one time a coworker telling me that when it opened in 1999, the Macy's Women's store once had a stride rite shoe department but it closed when this store opened, I have not been able to confirm that since that coworker retired a while back ago, still it's a very nice looking store for children's shoes.
