I know weather's gonna be fine

But I can't see you 'cross the streamline

My love waits for me in daytime

But I can't see you through the snowblind

On May 31, 2014, the North Carolina Transportation Museum hosted a Streamliners Festival where E units and F units (and streamliners from other builders) all congreated at the museum in Spencer.

Here, a conductor rides the Carolina, Clinchfield & Ohio (CCO, or just Clinchfield) 1048 in an equipment move from one end of the yard to the area near the turntable.

Returning from Bathurst, GM10 and B61 make their way through the Sodwalls curves with 8L04 to Sydney, the return of the Central West Streamliner tour operated by SSR and LVR.

In 2014 the North Carolina Transportation Museum held their biggest party ever and in my humble opinion the single greatest railfan event I've ever attended before or since. Following up on their wildly successful heritage unit family portrait event for Norfolk Southern's 30th anniversary they planned something even bigger.

Gathering 26 surviving freight and passenger diesels from the classic first generation era, they all came together for three days of festivities centered around the old Southern Railway turntable. So here is yet another angle from this truly once in a lifetime event!

From right to left we see:

Norfolk Southern F9A 4271, at the time it was part of the four unit OCS power but was sold off five years later. Built as an F7A in Aug. 1952 it was delivered as Baltimore and Ohio 947. Today this locomotive wears a bright pink livery and belongs to the Aberdeen, Carolina and Western and is a sister to the RBMN 270 I photographed recently.

To her right all the way from Cheyenne, WY is Union Pacific 951 an E9A built new for the road in Jun. 1955. Heavily rebuilt in 1993 at Paducah she lost her twin 567 engines in favor of a 645 and is essentially a GP38-2 internally now.

Next up traveling from Port Jervis, NY was Erie E8A 833 at the time owned by the New York and Greenwood Lake Railway. Built by EMD in Mar. 1951 she would pass to E-L and then CR where she gained fame as CR 4022 dressed in Conrail blue and then later Pullman green as one of three special units retained to lead big blue's OCS train.

Lastly is North Carolina Transportation Museum's resident E8A SOU 6999 in full Southern Railway dress. Built for the road in Sep. 1951 as number 2923 she was part of the fleet that led the Southern Crescent until 1979 while the SOU initially stayed out of Amtrak. Once they finally called it quits this unit was donated to the young museum in 1980 and has been maintained operational on her old home rails ever since.

To celebrate 10 years since it first begin operations, Southern Shorthaul Railroad have outshopped two locomotives in a striking new livery.

Inspired by the distinctive AN Passenger livery, S317 & GM27 power through a cold, wet landscape with 1845 Kelo Freight.

Hard to believe this was 7 years ago, the turntable line ups at "Streamliners at Spencer" was pretty colorful, with all the classic noses and paint schemes May 29. 2014.

Spending a few days in New South Wales for the 'Streamliners 2022' event in Goulburn, time out was also taken on the journey home to catch former Australian National locos CLF1/CLF2 sandwiching Alco 44223 and EMD C501 on a SSR empty grain working to Coolamon - 3 October 2022.

Having experienced better days in passenger service, C&NW 1584 is now relegated to branchline service. A semaphore in the vertical position does little to speed the progress on a line plagued with slow orders and an (as yet unknown) impending death sentence. (A Wisconsin spring with a lack of good skies have kept this GP7 out of the limelight for now. Lawn chairs are a combination of brass rod and 1/8" ribbon).
