8878 Hopper Transfer from Port Augusta to Lithgow was operated by SSR Streamliners B61 S317 GM27 GM10 and S302, ahead of 96 empty coal hoppers.

Starting at Blayney, this series of images follows the train through to Bathurst (where they left the hoppers) and then onto Lithgow.

An interesting streamliner oddity from 1933- the Clark Autotram. Front of a brochure in my collection, see next image for the text on the back. Paint scheme was red, must have been quite stunning in person. A short newsreel film can be seen here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhmmZ_2WEpw&feature=youtu.be&...

Clark would go on to be the transit idustry's primary supplier for PCC streetcar trucks, and they also made a one-off prototype attempt at the whole PCC streetcar for New York City, (which survives today). They were also famous for their forklifts.

There is an excellent book by Robert Myers on the Clark Autotram put out by the Berrien County Historical Association: berrienhistory.org/ You can call them and order a copy.

During a night photo test session for the upcoming "Streamliners" event, four of N.C. Transportation Museum "star" diesels pose outside the Bob Julian Roundhouse on a very pleasant Spring evening. Be sure to visit www.nctrans.org for the latest updates on the Streamliners event, and make plans to be in North Carolina on May 29-June 1. Hope to see you there!

Another view of a black winged stilt who was intent on dive-bombing me .... its kiddies were nearby! I like the wing detail on this image.

Amongst the clutter including new galvanised overhead wiring supports, WL1 Indian Pacific behind CLP12 + 19 rounds the curve just west of Newtown station on 12 June 1997.

VIA Rail Canada train No. 2 left Wainwright, Sask., 1:20 behind the 8-ball, but has made up time as the sun has risen on western Saskatchewan. With fast track and few freight delays, it'll arrive at its next stop of Biggar just a few minutes late. The train is now sprinting through the early morning light near Landis with 22 lightweight stainless-steel cars in tow. This transcontinental passenger train is truly the last of the postwar streamliners to be found outside of a museum grounds.

The streamlined N&W #611 shoves north out of its station stop at Barber Junction on one of its runs around the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer.

An "older" EMD sits in Spencer during the Streamliner Foam Fest. For my money, this GP30 looks just as good if not better than the other things. One thing I noticed about the 2601 restoration is the "J" check letter on the cab used after the number 2601 in regular service was not included. I wonder why?

This was the lineup at the roundhouse at the Streamliners at Spencer on 5-30-14.

A beautiful design, Chesapeake and Ohio's #490 appears to be in motion even when it's standing still.

No. 490 is the sole survivor of the L-1 class 4-6-4 "Hudson" type steam locomotives. It was built by Alco's Richmond works in 1926 as an F-19 class 4-6-2 "Pacific" type to be used to pull the Chesapeake and Ohio's secondary passenger trains. It was eventually rebuilt in 1947 to become a streamlined 4-6-4 for the C&O's Chessie streamliner. After the Chessie was cancelled, No. 490 remained in secondary passenger service, until it was retired in 1953. It spent several years in storage in Huntington, West Virginia, until 1968, when it was donated to the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore, Maryland. It remains on static display at the museum, as of 2022.
