This is a good example of eutrophication. It looks kind of cool, but it's very unhealthy for the ecosystem depending on the body of water. The next day, I went back to this site and the park staff had started to cut all these plants out of the stream so it could flow as water again.
Eutrophication is an increase of nutrients in the water, which SOUNDS like a good thing, but it encourages the growth of algae and plants, which eventually cover the surface of the water, and block the oxygen from getting in. The fish and other organisms die from lack of oxygen, fertilizing the plant growth. Over a long period of time, a pond or lake could turn into a swamp and then a meadow. This is a natural process that happens regardless of human interference. But people cause this process to happen more rapidly and more frequently because of the laundry detergents we use (phosphorus) and the fertilizers we use (nitrogen). These elements wash into our water systems and hasten eutrophication. Hope I have that little science lesson right. LOL

A beautiful young lady I had the pleasure to shoot in the warm winter sun. She is also a very talented ballerina, so we have planned a shoot for the near future with this theme. I am very much looking forward to it!

just finished a little experiment/project. thanks to the php-wizardry of christian it was a matter of minutes to set up the functionality. the site uses simplepie to parse some rss-feeds of mine. included are items of my del.icio.us feed, pictures from my flickr photostream and some short messages coming in via twitter.
the colors stand for:
orange - entertainment
blue - design/art/...
green - webdevelopment and other techstuff
pink - my flickr photostream
grayed out - twitter
some people created similar things to this and called it "lifestream" for example, documenting all online activity of a person. my attempt is different though, because i carefuly select what goes to the site and what not (i'm using special tags for this). so as a matter of fact, it's like a blog without a blog.
i'm sure it's still buggy and all that but hey it's brand new! :)

This group of uploaded images are from West Sikkim where we were based in the small town of Pelling. Early dawn skies over the Kangchendzonga mountain range of the Himalayas couldn't resist my camera lens with their ever changing cloud formations.
Third time lucky. This was my third attempt at a having a little stroll in the mountains this fall. The first two times I was thwarted by all the rock slides that happened after the heavy rain in July. But the trails on Fukuchi mountain have more or less been reestablished so we were able to enjoy a beautiful day.
It is hard to believe that this little trickle of water could swell and cause all the mass wasting in the next image.
