a small - unamed spring fed stream, which starts deep underground, high up on meikleholm hill. meanders it's way down the rock strewn steep banking, towards the river esk, (border esk) in the autumnal galaside wood, just off the duchess's walk. langholm, dumfriesshire, scotland.

This stream flows along a part of the trail that we hiked, a beautiful blue contrast to the red rocks. This part of the park is known as the Oak Creek Riparian area.
Riparian zones have been defined in various ways, but essentially they consist of fairly narrow strips of land bordering creeks, rivers, lakes, or other bodies of water. Plant species, soil types, and topography are distinctive when compared to the surrounding, drier upland area.
Although riparian areas generally occupy only a small percentage of the area of a watershed, they are crucial components of the ecosystem. A healthy riparian area: provides excellent fish and wildlife habitat; increases groundwater recharge; reduces flooding; and often increases the overall quality of the adjacent waterway.
This is a little side stream that feeds into Cove Creek in Polk County, NC. You have to cross this on your way to Little Bradley Falls.

These are just a few pics of the many little mountains streams we found while exploring the area this fall. These are right off the roadway and made for a very scenic drive.
A small stream that I found today. It was peaceful and I took just a minute to enjoy it. Then it was back to the real world :(
