Wolong Valley of Dazhang Mountain, also known as Wolong Canyon, located at the eastward ranges of Yellow Mountain – Dazhang Mountain, Wuyuan, Jiangxi Province, is about 26 miles (43 kilometers) away from the center of Wuyuan County. Embraced by rolling mountains from all sides, this valley is just like an emerald inlaid in the verdant valley. Its advantageous location and the perennial vegetation coverage of 90.7% endow it with a beautiful and unique gorge landscape. Wolong Valley is also praised as the most magical and mysterious valley in the area of Yangtze River delta. Nowadays, it is gaining popularity among local people and tourists all over the world, and becomes one of the most worthy scenic spot located at the north tour line of Wuyuan.
In different seasons, this valley has different beautiful sceneries. It is famous for its four characteristics: grand, precipitous, novel and idyllic. Each unique characteristic has its own explanation. With 1.8 miles (3 kilometers) channel segments, Wolong Valley of Dazhang Mountain has a 2,395 feet (730 meters) high natural water drop. During the flood season, the voice of torrents and raging rapids resounded through the valley, which embodies the characteristic of grand. Precipitous indicates that the degree of dissection of rocks can reach from 1,640 feet (500 meters) to 3,280 feet (1000 meters). In some scenic spots, the maximum grade of perpendicular cliff reaches more than 80. The characteristic “novel” is embodied in a large number of waterfalls. Especially, the second highest drop waterfall in China named “Qianzhang” has a height of 633 feet (193 meters). The characteristic “idyllic” is demonstrated in its thousands of colorful pools and ponds. In this valley, grandeur waterfalls, limpid ponds and grotesque stones form more than 10 famous scenic spots there, which mainly including Crouching Dragon Pond, Quiet Pond and 82 Rush Springs.
With the deepest depth of 41 feet (12.5 meters), Crouching Dragon Pond is a must-see scenic spot in Wolong Valley. It is said that this pond was a divine place for local people to pray for rain in ancient time. When sunlight glinted on the surface of water, the whole pond is like a piece of gold. Surrounded by abundant trees and plants, Crouching Dragon Pond has become one of the most worthy scenic spots in this valley.
Compared with Crouching Dragon Pond, Quiet Pond is much smaller. Although this, this pond still has its own characteristic. The water in this pond is not rapid. When tourists arrived at this place, limpid water, green trees and smooth stones will bring a quiet and peaceful atmosphere to tourists. Many tourists are willing to choose this place to chat with their friends or sketch the beautiful scenery along.
82 Rush Waterfalls, as its name implies, consist 82 small waterfalls. All of these waterfalls have the common original headwaters – a 4,146 feet (1,264 meters) high springwater. Facing this scenic spot, visitors will enjoy the beauty and grandeur that is produced by the group of waterfalls. Each waterfall has its own attractions. Some of them are rapid; others are more mild and peaceful. Most tourists and amateur photographers indulge themselves in this kind of appealing scenery.

Taken near Lundy Lake on Oct 16 2011
Getting to this place was not easy. I had to go on a single lane dirt road to reach the beaver ponds. My Camry had a tough time on this road. At one spot me and another huge pickup truck were stuck adjacent to each other so both of us had to backup, I didn't realize there was a guy tailgating me on this road so I backed up without looking and heard a loud bam. I looked back and got out of my car and an old white guy got out of his SUV and said "You got a license young man" I a little intimidated said "Yeah" and the next minute he looked at the front bumper for his SUV and there was not even a slight scratch but I could see his licence place engraved on my rear bumper. Then he looks at me and says "How about we go ahead then?" I being at fault here coudln't day anything other than "Okay" and we went out ways. Only reward for me after this mess was this shot, it turned out pretty good so I wasn't completely disappointed :) The next time I go here I am renting a pickup truck.
8 Oct 12. Cool breezes follow the mountain stream, colliding with warm rays from the sun. Seasons
collide.
It was one of those [October] days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade.
