The eastern side of the Big Island gets tons of rain. We lucked out in getting there on a clear day, but the signs were everywhere in the gorges cutting through the seaside cliffs, the many streams and waterfalls. This wasn’t even a turn-out—we just pulled over to the side of the road and walked back to the bridge.

Roelant Savery (1576 - buried 25 February 1639), was a Flanders-born Dutch Golden Age painter.
Schwarzenberg Palace(Schwarzenberský Palác)
One of the most beautiful renaissance structures. It is located at the Castle Square, near the Prague Castle and houses a collection of baroque bohemian art.
Lobkowicz Palace
The Palace was built between 1545 and 1576 for the Prague Count Jan Lobkowicz the Younger. Hence it was originally known as the Lobkowicz Palace. Designed by the Italian master builder Agostino Galli, the palace is one of the finest examples of Renaissance architecture in Prague.
Schwarzenberg Palace
In 1593 the emperor confiscated the palace after he sent the owner, Jirí z Popelu Lobkovicz to prison on charges of betrayal and fraud. The Palace was handed over to Petr Vok z Rožmberka. After being in the possession of several other owners, the complex was obtained by the Schwarzenberg family, after whom the Palace is now named. They owned the palace from 1719 until 1948.

A tiny stream flows from the cliffs, southwest of Independence Mine at a higher elevation. The terrain becomes alpine tundra and scattered, lichen-covered boulders litter the landscape. This little stream runs clear and cold across a cushiony green carpet of moss, breaking up this otherwise harsh mountainside with a touch of softness and warm glow. It made a delightful bed upon which to lay and listen to the sounds of flowing water, ptarmigan, pikas and squirrels foraging amongst the stones. It was warmer as long as the sun was shining and the wind stayed calm, but the weather can change quickly and a warm, early fall day in the upper elevations of Hatcher Pass can turn freezing in an instant. The sun dips behind a cloud or mountain, wind picks up and an ill-prepared hiker will find their way quickly back down the mountains.
Just realised i hadn't posted any of my current hand pieced project. From a pattern in Down Under quilts last year. I have been cutting from Marti Michell's templates and hand piecing, stitching point to point.
The stream pictured is Bear Creek. The location is on the bridge across from Barnett Hall in Kirksville, MO. The picture was taken on November 4, 2019 around 11:30 am. Even a small stream or lotic system contains a complex ecological system within it. There are several layers in the stream: the hyporheic zone, benthic zone, and main channel. Along the stream there are also riffles and pools. Each of these sections has a diverse array of organisms with varying jobs. The hyporheic zone is often home to detritivores and sedentary organisms. The benthic zone and main channel contain the more free moving organisms. Riffles and pools have different flow rates and oxygen levels which provide the proper environmental conditions for different organisms. The stream can also provide an example of a food web or trophic web. Algae or aquatic plants growing on the rocks and in the bottom of the stream are eaten by insects, detritivores, and some macroinvertebrates. These smaller organisms may then be eaten by larger macroinvertebrates and/or fish. The algae and plants represent primary producers while the insects that eat the plants and algae are the primary consumers. The larger macroinvertebrates and fish are the secondary and tertiary consumers respectively.

I was there last week for a CT Scan, as one of the required steps to ensure that I really am a viable candidate for a cochlear implant in my right ear...
Update as of February 24th, 2014: During a series of Audiology Lab assessments it became clear that hearing aids could help me to hear better. And, hearing aids do not involve a surgical procedure. That was a viable option, and I went to Costco for a new top of the line set. They have been very effective in improving my quality of life...;))

Caught this stream from the corner of my eye when driving down the road from our camping site. The dark wooded area, highlighted by the bright blue water, was too much for me to resist wanting the shot. Like any other half-crazed photographer, I found myself slamming on the brakes, rolling down the passenger window, grabbing the camera, taking the shot, and, with camera still in hand, pulling away down the road as if nothing happened out of the ordinary.
Naturally, I was pleased, after-the-fact, to find I was the only one on the road.
