Remembering Yaffa Cafe in the East Village, which was in business for 32 years before it was forced to close in 2014 after the owners were told by the City that its beloved backyard patio with seating was illegal. We have so many fond memories of dining cheaply at the cafe with its famous salads served with carrot dressing. It was also one of the few places which was open around the clock in the neighborhood. Photo from 2011 appears in our book “New York Nights”. Let us know if you also remember this great vegan-friendly spot.

Howe is a crossroads townsite in rural Adair County. Not much exists beyond this and a couple of farmsteads. According to an old plat map there was a general store on this site but I couldn't find any information beyond that.

Despite being in a forgotten part of downtown it actually looks like all the storefronts are leased here.
A section of downtown Troy was transformed into 19th century NY City for production of the HBO series "The Gilded Age."
