In honor of Charlie Parker, the legendary late saxophonist 🎷 who was born on August 29, 1920, we are highlighting the historic jazz club, Arthur’s Tavern in the West Village, which was established in 1937. Parker was not only a regular performer at the Tavern, but his last performance one week before his demise in 1955 was at Arthur’s Tavern. Charlie, who was a master of improvisation, became known for his bebop style & was nicknamed “Bird” because he invented a signature technique that involved playing the higher chord intervals for the original melody and then making changes to back them up seamlessly. Arthur’s Tavern is also popularly known as “The Home of the Bird” and to this day stays true to Charlie’s legacy often playing his entire solo and band jazz collection. Cloud Strife (クラウド・ストライフ, Kuraudo Sutoraifu) is the main protagonist in Squaresoft's (now known as Square Enix) role playing game Final Fantasy VII and several of its sequels and spin-offs. His appearance is marked by spiky blonde hair, vivid green eyes (a distinguishing feature of SOLDIER members and a sign of having been exposed to mako), dark purple or blue clothing, and his Buster Sword (a zweihänder-style sword with a distinctive, oversized blade).
