I had to step into the garage before heading out on my Thursday Walk, and I was so taken by the light that I fired off a couple of frames. Which was both clever and foolish. Clever because I rather like this shot, and foolish because I didn't bother to check the battery -- so my little X10 went toes up while I was framing the first photo taken on the walk.
this stool long ago lost it's cover and the padding underneath was disintegrating between our feet and the cat's attentions. we started covering the mess up with a baby quilt, when i realized i could recover it with patchwork. i use the term "recover" loosely as we mostly staple-gunned the heck out of it. this has been a LONG time in coming. i'm really happy with the way it turned out, maybe tomorrow i'll get decent shots of it in the living room!
One might refer to this as a stool as it is very sturdy and I have often sat on it but one could just as easily use it as an occasional table. My father made it from scrap pieces of oak sometime after my parents were married in 1930 but before I was born.
The label was stuck on it in 1953 when I was in a play at the Greenwich Town Hall to celebrate the Queen's Coronation. All the schools in the borough put on a piece. I played King Alfred and I sat on this stool. Notice the coloured sticky paper and the name written in ink with a real pen.
